Great games never die!

Doom and Quake are the first two multiplayer Id Software games. Doom started deathmatch out on a LAN, and Quake took it to the next step by bringing it onto the internet.

What is really cool is how Tenebrae Quake is starting to look as good as the new Doom being worked on by Id Software.

  uh... you could play doom online, sparky. peer to peer dm... 14.4 modems were all the rage back then : archon
  - Yeah but Quake popularised it. As for Tenebrae Quake, its got some nice new effects but its not quite DOO... : xenoeye

I've no idea why this gets a frontpage mention, but the far-superior (imo) JDoom gets left out. If you want to pump up your Doom/Heretic/Hexen check it out.

Most recent release was Sept 11 (bad timing?) get all the model, weapon, and sound packs for best results. If your a Hexen fan get the huge texture pack in which every texture in the game has been redone into ultrahigh res. Makes the tenebrae textures look lame in comparison. Now if they could just add the bumpmapping...
