Late Night Consoling

Tonight's LNC is being written extremely early as some Real Life stuff requires my attention. Since I have to write this before many sites I rely on post their daily updates, it's entirely possible that I'll miss a notable story. If you come across something, please post it in the comments section. Thanks!

PS2 Still More GTA: Vice City Shots Because last night's batch wasn't enough, GameSpot has posted more new screenshots from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City tonight. There's also a new trailer, but it's for subscribers only.
PS2 Unlimited SaGa News The latest issue of the Japanese magazine Famitsu has new information from Square's upcoming Unlimited SaGa. The game will be released on December 12th in Japan, and scans of the magazine article (complete with new shots and Japanese text) can be found at Games Are Fun.
GameCube Zelda Not Delayed! According to PlanetGameCube (who spoke with a Nintendo representative on the matter), the unnamed Legend of Zelda GameCube title has not been pushed back, and will still be released in North America in February.
Xbox Panzer Dragoon Orta Update The English half of the official Japanese Panzer Dragoon Orta website has been synchronized with its native half. There's not much there beyond the scary reproduction warnings, but you can go read such wonderful translations as, "Breath taking storyline of the new Panzer world will be revealed this winter!" Thanks PlanetXbox for the tip.
GameBoy Advance GBA e-Reader Review IGN has posted their review of the Game Boy Advance e-Reader, that nutty gizmo that reads games off of trading cards. Their review is full of praise, enough where I'm almost willing to take this thing seriously. Is anyone else interested in it?
GameCube PS2 Dragon's Lair 3D Delayed Encore Software has announced that the PS2 and GameCube versions of Dragon's Lair 3D have been pushed back into next year. The Xbox and PC versions are still on track for a November release.
GameCube PS2 Xbox Marv Albert Signs with EA Sports Chalk another big-name up for EA Sports...they've signed sports commentator Marv Albert to lend his voice to the play-by-play commentary in NBA Live 2003. The game is scheduled to be released later this year.
GameBoy Advance New PSO Xbox Details With the GameCube version out in Japan, Sega has finally released some details from their Xbox port of Phantasy Star Online. The Xbox port will indeed include a new character class, and will, like every other online Xbox title, support live audio chat. Apparently an Xbox keyboard will be available on the same day as the game, although it's not clear who is manufacturing it at this time (or why it's necessary, since the game supports the voice communicator).
GameBoy Advance Defender of the Crown Here are some impressive new shots from Defender of the Crown, the GBA revival of Cinemaware's classic game.
Console Game of the Evening: Iron Soldier 2 for the Atari Jaguar CD. There weren't many top-tier Jaguar games released, but this was definitely one of them. While it's debatable how much it innovated over its predecessor, IS2 offers some solid mech action, something consoles have never done very well (although Mech Assault looks to change that).

  • Pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but in an interview on IGN...

    Tenchu 3

Main Game Designer and Main Planner Masanori Kuwasashi: The biggest changes we've made are in the controls. We've implemented direct control with the analog stick and we've included a "lock-on" button that locks your enemy onto the middle of the screen. Other big changes are the addition of a nine kanji power up system that let you earn new abilities within levels, and the addition of two- player vs and co-op modes.

    OMFG! Ninja co-op mode! wooooooooooooo!

The changes to the controls are very much appreciated too (lock-on camera and MGS camera-relative controls).

    Can't wait!
