Battlefield 1942 was supposed to show up today on most retail shelves, but a lot of people are reporting their local stores have told them it will be out tomorrow or perhaps Saturday in most cases. So check your stores then. In the mean time, EA has sent along the v1.1 update as well as the retail v1.1 dedicated server files for you guys to grab ahead of time if you're planning on picking it up. Here you go, via FileShack of course:

Whelp, after about 3 nights of playing the demo, I think I've decided I wont be buying this game. Its simply too much of a pig on my 1.4 ghz tbird/ Gf3Ti200. Chunking out into 8-12 fps during fights just isnt fun. "Whee! I'm dead! Wonder if the 5 fps I was getting at the time had anything to do with it?" :p

Its certainly a promising game. Too bad the requirements are so steep (its a good looking game, but not to the extent the performance would imply).

So, uhm, yeah, where is that UT2K3 demo?

How come 1.1 is so choppy compared to 1.0?!!?

Before the patch everything was smooth as butter, now it starts to stutter and chug a lot..it's bearable, but annoying.

This is one of those times where it sux to live in Japan. I won't be getting this for about a week after you guys...I've got 5 days in a row off next week but I don't wanna get stuck inside for that time....aah, must resist.

One concern I have is how much EA will support this game after release. When I say support I mean as far as chasing down bugs, releasing patches, improving netcode, etc. I truly hope they stay behind this title as it has really re-invigorated me as far as gaming goes...I was starting to wane for a while. Actually, even after I got the demo for BF1942..I was like "meh, it's ok". Thank the maker I picked up a USB joystick in Akibabs, I cannot stop playing this puppy....mmm...full version.

So how is the netcode in terms of "need a low ping to be good"? If I've got a ping that averages say, 80 but likes to spike up to 200, is this game worth playing? And will any servers still run the demo in a week, since I as of yet haven't felt like trying it? (just seems like a lot to learn)

i dont get people complaining about speed on the game i have all the eye candy on at 1024 with aax2 and afx16, and i only have 256 megs of ram, a 8500 and a 1800+
i get great frame rate and lag is a rare thing on my cable modem, obviously its not best to play this game on a phone line but what game works great with that...

something i think people should keep in mind... if you dont want to ruin a game like CS was ruined, DONT CHEAT.

if you know someone is cheating, dont spam it, what people do not know does not hurt them, ignorance is bliss and such

if you are a cheating ass, atleast keep your cheating to yourself, dont give it to your whole 'l33t' clan...

the longer the game goes without people cheating, the better.

I love this game, I agree with the critics but its still MILES above
CS and SOF2, every round of 1942 has those moments you laugh about afterwards
with your friends "Then I ran the guy over, jumped out and shot a plane down
with my machine gun!" " Boooooring, I shot down a plane with an anti ship gun!!"
and on, and on:)

I just dont remember having so many of those moments with previous games..

I just got my RMA'd geforce 4 in the mail and I bought mafia, but the damn game seems to run really slow, like less then 40 fps. Visibly chopping. I've got hardware TnL on, 1024x768, no fsaa, 40.41 drivers. 512 mb ram. Like no matter what option I change it still runs really slow. Is there one option that I missed that really has a huge fps difference?

Now, 10 more days (at least - because it's a synchronous release) until the game hit stores on my country (Brazil). Adding to that 3-4 days until store managers understand that newly released games are actually awaited (believe me, it got them WEEKS to get Quake 3 from their trucks to the store shelves) .. roughly at the end of the month the game will be here. Woo.

can anyone else download the server OK? I get to 30.1MB and it finishes. All I have is a corrupt file. SF and LA.
