Creative GeForce Thursday?

It looks like the Creative Labs GeForce cards may be released as early as this Thursday. Check out this post Billy spotted from Bill Ball, the senior technical marketing specialist at Creative. Here is the quote: "The target is Thursday. There are no hurdles in the way now, so it should happen. Recognize that this is just when cards begin leaving the warehouse. Availability at any one retail is not predictable. Some get them right away, many take weeks." You can check out my GeForce benchmarks (soon to be updated) here.

  • Thoughts for sale.

I seem to miss the boat on these things.
I bought a Verite 1000 Card so I could play
Vquake, and it was good. Then two months later
they released GLQuake, and everyone laughed at me and beat
me with wet noodles. So I bought a Monster3d card, and it was good. And it worked fine for me for about a year or so. And then someone
released the TNT, and I ignored it because my system really didn\'t haul enough anyway. Then I went to build a new system and I decided on the TNT.
Two months later they released the TNT2. @(*$@(*$. Ok. So now. NOW!
I\'m not going to miss the boat.
From my perspective.. if you have a TNTU or V3, I would wait to see if this whole T&L thing really takes off.... if it doesn\'t.. then it\'s really not worth it, and you should wait \'till Nvidia\'s spring refresh
or even beyond. If you don\'t have a V3 or TNTU, then I think you could seriously consider the GeForce (I know I am). I cringe everytime I think about buying a new graphics card, because in three or four months I\'m
always out-dated, but what the hell... you have to plunge eventually. I think it\'ll give me marked improvedment on my little Celery o/c to 500. The thing is... don\'t just jump at the Creative Card. READ UP ON THIS STUFF! Creative rushed their TNT2 to market too,
and it showed. Wait a bit.. see how things look when the dust settles, and don\'t FORGET ABOUT THE DDR CARDS! I know so many people who just go \"MM.. geforce.. must have..\" Who couldn\'t care what kind of RAM is under the hood, and don\'t even know
differences exist. I think the DDR is a huge performance advantege.. and.. um....I think you need to educate yourself abotu it before you make a price decision. Yeah! So. That\'s my little two cents.

Also.. for those of you thinking about the V4... or whatever.... I think 3DFX is missing the boat here... all together.. I mean....They don\'t have a hardware T&L solution in their cards anytime soon, the V4 is a rehased V3 which is a rehashed V2 which is a rehashed V1, and their CEO just resigned. All that spells trouble.
    Thanks.
    :)

  • Well all you monkeys who got the TNT, then TNT2, I stuck with my voodoo2 8 meg which I am only NOW replacing with a GeForce Prophet. (oh yeah and the ATI video DECELERATOR AIWPRO)from what I can tell from the benches if you got an athlon 650 or a P3600B wait for the ddr version. But if your like most of the upright bi-peds on this planet an SDR at 800 or 1024 with a P2 400 to a athlon 500 is fine. NO way am I paying 369 for a damn video card. and those retards who drool over a 64 MB DDR version? thats just retarded. I usually wait to double my spec when upgrading. I went from a p200 to a pII400. Next is an Athlon Copper interconnect CPU prolly at 800... ill pimp around on the ole pII400 with a geforce sdr for a while.. with 192 pc100... mmmmmm ram.....
Prediction: 3dfx will die a slow painful death, s3 will get their act together and compete with nvidia, nvidia will rule the graphics market eventually. nvidia rocks, 3dfx blows, s3 remains to be seen, and the buttboys jizz 3d? LOL never happen l8a

  • Hey Steve? I\'ve been curious about this one point, and it seems no one has addressed it. One of the arguements for having T&L is that it helps keep framerates more consistent. While an average is fine, it tells only a part of the story, and not the most important part, at that. The most important part isn\'t the average, or even the highest framerate, but the lowest. I was wondering if maybe you could just play around with the (q3) demos a bit and see what the low(est) framerates look like in omparison to the ultra and voodoo3. Might be interesting.
