America's Army: Operations GONE GOLD
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 28, 2002 9:45am PDTWe received an email from the U.S. Army announcing that their America's Army: Operations game has gone gold. Being a free game and all, this game will not ship to stores however it will be available on CD. The CD will feature missions available on www.americasarmy.com as well as exclusive swamp raid and mountain ambush missions. The free CD will be available early October, and you will be able to pick it up at Army Recruiting stations, ROTC Detachment and Army events (which will be listed on the America's Army site as well).
America's Army: Operations is one part of the realistic America's Army computer game that provides civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today's premier land force: the U.S. Army. The game includes the first-person-perspective action game Operations, as well as Soldiers, the role-playing portion of America's Army in which players navigate life's challenges to achieve life goals. Soldiers will be released later this fall.If you've never tried this game out, you can find the latest version on FileShack.

That's not saying anything about the game play though, its a lot of fun. Still though, don't let them trick you into thinking its free. It is simply a tax payer promotional tool that has been put into place by the government to try to get men between 18 and 35 to join the army.

It's not so much a recruiting tool as it is an education tool so that you can learn the history of the US Army and what it actually does. I can't wait to play America's Army : Soldiers to get even more in depth on actual life in the US Army, but I'm not sure I can mentally handle all of the motivational bullshit that'll be thrown at me. Come on, the Army is really comprised of people that couldn't cut it to be Marines.. :)

Oh, and MORE maps in the CD version? Bad move. How about those who set up servers with the new maps.. noone who have *downloaded* the game can play on those servers.

BF 1942 is better anyway... there's no need to play a MOUT map 150 times to get access to the full game.
