Late Night Consoling
by jason bergman, Aug 26, 2002 8:30pm PDTHappy Super Mario Sunshine day everybody! Here's a link to GameSpot's so-so review (I'll be adding it to the ShackReviews database this weekend). If you pre-ordered it, chances are that it's on its way to you now, if you haven't already picked it up. My copy's on its way, but in a particular bit of bad timing, I've got three previews to write over the next two weeks, so my schedule's kinda full. Of course, this weekend is labor day, and I can't possibly work that whole time, now can I? Somehow I think I'll manage to squeeze a bit o' Mario in there somewhere.
| New Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest at TGS? According to one list, Square will be showing Final Fantasy XII and Sony will be showing Dragon Quest VIII at next month's Tokyo Game Show. Nothing's official yet, so don't get too excited just yet. | |
| More Square News Tying into the story above, Square may be set to announce a new game this week. While Games Are Fun speculates that the game might be the long-rumored Chrono Break, I'm holding out for a single player-only Final Fantasy XII. On a related note, here's some miscellaneous Square news, with details about their plans for Final Fantasy XI, which includes an "advanced version" re-release in Japan. | |
| Again with the Square News According to Games Are Fun, Square's Final Fantasy X side stories, which have never been displayed anywhere, will be at the Tokyo Game Show, but available only behind closed doors. It was recently confirmed that these will be out this year in Japan, so hopefully we'll find out some real details soon. | |
| Hah PS2.IGN got a funny package from Microsoft. | |
| Lunar Legend Official It has been virtually confirmed (heck, we had a release date already) but Ubi Soft finally got around to officially announcing their plans to release Lunar Legend in the U.S. later this year. You may recall that Working Designs passed on this game, saying that cramming the Sega CD game into a GBA cart lost too much in the process. | |
| Lots of Shenmue 2 Shots You'll need an Insider subscription to look at more than five of them (unless you delete your cookies) but IGN has posted a crapload of new shots from the Xbox port of Shenmue II. | |
| Sonic Collection Details IGN was able to check out Sega's Sonic Mega Collection at Nintendo's Gamers Summit, and they have posted some new details. Apparently the decision to drop Sonic CD is based on the fact that a GameCube disc only has 1.5 GB of storage space, but that extra space will now be taken up by fun extras, including scans of all the packaging and lots of "unlockable surprises." | |
| Nintendo Rumors Apparently this month's Electronic Gaming Monthly has all kinds of rumors about Nintendo's. According to the magazine, Mario Kart will be online compatible, and available in the first half of 2003, followed by Mario Party Online and Animal Crossing Online. A GameCube sequel to Advance Wars is also said to be in production, although online multiplayer was not suggested for the title. | |
| Tribes Aerial Assault Preview GameSpot has a new preview of Tribes Aerial Assault online tonight. The preview was actually posted on Friday, but the site went down for the weekend before I could post a link to it. | |
| Xbox DVD Rebate If you're planning on picking up an Xbox between now and November 2nd, Microsoft is offering a $30 rebate if you get a DVD playback kit (making it effectively free). Swing by here for details. |

Someone send them a copy of GTA3:Vice when it's released, they deserve a good game.

9.2 from Games Radar UK (Total Publishing)
9.4 from IGN
9.4 from GameSpy
9.6 from DrunkGamers
10 from Gamers.com
And EGM, the only console publication I think is really worth a damn, gave it a 9.5, 9.5, and 9.5 from all three reviewers.
I know it's just like, he's opinion man, but I think that GameSpot review is way off. Maybe that guy is shitty at platformers, but while the game's challenging, it isn't because of poor design. If anything, the level design is great and it's about time there was a platformer that was challenging like the golden age of gaming. Also I wouldn't consider FLUDD a gimmick, it gives Mario a better ability to explore the world, thus freeing up the designers from doing the same thing. The camera isn't too bad once you get used to it.

"Nintendo is looking to sell its stake in Rare"

There are mistakes in the article but that's probably because it was written by someone with a non-gaming background.

Just found this video while making my daily rounds on Foreign Videogame websites. Its pretty awesome.
It is a Japanese Show called DSGARAGE and they had TEKKI as their subject for that episdoe. They have the TEKKI developers interviewed [All japanese though] and they show lots of new TEKKI Footage. They also show the Controller up close and personal and give you a walk through on the boot up process. Show off the features of the games.. Etc Etc, Very cool Video. I recommend you download this footage IMMEDIATELY
The video is 25 Minutes and is 90 MEGABYTES Large
Link for video: http://xboxmagazine.co.kr/xbox/ssidda/tekki.wmv
The very first glimpse of the Japanese TEKKI commercial is also on this video download. It starts on the 9th Minute for those that are interested.
Very Bad-ass Tekki Commericial

it is gorgeous, especially the pretty water in the ocean around the island. i love the tease of seeing the later areas REALLY far away from the main hub area too. i am struggling with the camera and some of the precise jumping in 3d. hopefully this just gets easier the more you play, as i have gotten sorta frustrated.
in the meanwhile, i am exploring the main hub. there are a bunch of secrets here, and some are sorta tricky! there is a shine hidden in plain sight that is aggravating me, as i have gotten NEAR it, but not in the room of course.
so far so good. more later.
They shouldn't post about stuff like that unless it's going to come true. Bah, I hate rumors.

There's some new pics there, but also a few short videos. The site is slow as hell right now though.
