This game is really, really cool. Lack of save anywhere isn't even an option. There are tape recoders every 10 minutes in the game and you can save as often as you like. It's fine.

I do have a sound issue. At one point I lose speech in the cinematic and all I hear is a heartbeat. I don't want to miss any story. There isn't an info in the patch as to what it fixes, so I'll have to see later.

But this is a cool game. Great mood and atmosphere and the gameplay is cool. it should have been first person, but the 3rd person is fine and it controls and feel natural. The game is very true to the movie.

It does seem to have the same low errie bass notes. But its not the same exact score. Still, it sounds good and fits 100%.

Just picked it up myself. PLayed about 1:30 hours. I really dig it. The graphics are nice and smooth, sound is good, voice-overs are above average and the squad managment is cool. Trust me, the save points system does suck but they are plenty. I think the only gripe i would have is the not being able to look anywhere in 3rd person mode. The switching to 1st person isnt really helping, since u cant move at all. And your team mates are sometimes just in the way.

BUt the coolest part is that it DOES feel like your watching, er playing the sequel to 'the thing'. Very cool.

You know, after reading some of those reviews out there, I may wait to get this game till after they patch it and add a save anywhere feature. Having set save points is... I guess understandable, if you want to make a game more scary, but I've read one review that they're very poorly spaced out, like after you fight a boss, it's another 20 minutes of gametime before you can find another save spot.

I hope they do this, they probably won't, if they don't I might not get the game, which is too bad, cause I really want to play it. There are very few things more frustrating than having to play one section of a game over 12 times.

Quick question... I havent read any reviews yet. I'm waiting for the Xbox release to pick it up. Does it have the cool eerie soundtrack from the movie? Thats got to be one of the best sounding soundtracks.

SAVE ANYWHERE.

To save anytime, anywhere run regedit and go to HKLM/Software/Computer Artworks/TheThing/1.0, create a string value called "DoInGameLoadSave" and set it to 1.

Quick Save registry edit (how to)

as per Computer Artworks:

Run "regedit" and go to:

HKLM/Software/Computer Artworks/TheThing/1.0

create a string value called "DoInGameLoadSave" and set it to 1.

Load Game and Save Game now appear in the options menu.

Note: don't use Load as it doesn't always work properly (go back to the main menu instead), but Save should be fine, except you don't get a save-point icon and the game will be called "TestGameName".
