Battlefield 1942 GONE GOLD!
by Steve Gibson, Aug 19, 2002 10:33am PDTBattlefield 1942, which seems to be quite the pleasant surprise for multiplayer around these parts has been confirmed as gone gold by Gone Gold after speaking with an EA pr dude. The game should be in stores September 12.

If I try for example 1024*768*32 and every setting turned on - and open up the big map ([Enter]-key) - the mousemovement-delay is somewhere around 0.1-0.2 secs. Its more like a mouse-trail than an actual mouse-movement...
In first-person view that trail translates into choppy rendering as soon as I try any fast movements.
My specs:
Xp 1800+
512 Mb ram
Geforce 3 ti200 (lates detonator-drivers)
Sonic Vortex2 (tried with it disabled as well, no difference)
Logitech Mouse
Any input/advice would be VERY appreciated!

On the other hand its darn fun. I'm going to wait and see how buggy the retail version is before buying it for sure. I've got my fingers crossed that it will be good.

Perfectly good waste of a kamikaze pilot (thats me!) and the only things I get out of it is a dead me, and whomever is around laughing thier asses off.
But I played all weekend and had a blast, can never get over the feeling of getting into the tail gunner slot with some guy you never seen before, going against your gut and trusting him to at least kill us in battle, only to have us crash off the carrier. Or you get 2 knmbnuts trying to take off at the same time...<sigh>
My only gripe :
If you die and are choosing a spot to spawn and a push is being made into enemy territory, DO NOT spawn with the other 10 teammates on the carrier and wait for a plane. jesus. If you do at least make a engineer to repair the damn thing. I love seeing our points going down and down , only to look at the carrier and see 10 arrows having a circle jerk where the planes spawn. All the while the carrier is getting pummeled and the AA guns are all empty, just lovely.
All good fun, I was kind of iffy on the game until I went on the shack server, thank you !

i had no problems killin people as a medic with the gun
sure the odd time i was point blank and missed a lot
the real secret is... TO NOT GO FULL AUTO
you will always miss shit ... short controlled bursts do the job from a distance

I'm just curious about something...does it penalize you for moving? I mean if you move does your gun become completely inaccurate? This is a pet peeve of mine and while doing it a little is fine I'm hoping that it isn't a matter of "you must completely stop moving when you shoot, we don't want you to shoot and move at the same time because even though it might be fun it isn't realistic." Also, how fast does the fastest class move...and how fast does a guy with a sub machinegun move? Just curious. Even if I don't like everything it still looks cool to me in a big big way (especially the vehicles).

Though the sniper rifle, I couldnt' hit anyone, sniping really really far away at someone

the sniper gun will simply NOT hit some1 vry far away, the game is choppy on a high end system with a 50ms ping. you ever see airplanes getting shot down? no ,b/c the net code is so bad it'll never happen, you cant hit anything if its moving. what a joke, gg, k ty, go home devs

Potential memory leak that causes insane graphical lag to come out of nowhere after playing for some time. Many feel this in varying degrees.
Clips reporting the ammo count in a unconventional way. i.e. I have one round chambered in the sniper rifle, bazooka, or tank/plane ready to fire and it says I have one round left. Maybe it's just me, but I'm used to loading weapons not counting chambered ammo.
Sniper rifles reload an imaginary round after firing last shot, then force you to put another clip in.
Once you exchange clips, you can't go back to previous, unfinished clips.
'God' weapons respawning by themself too fast. Artillery and AA guns respawn about 60 seconds after they are destroyed. It can take a lot of effort to destroy them and for them to pop right back up is bad for gameplay. Times closer to ship respawns would be more appropriate. Make it an option to adjust those weapons' respawns to make engineers more valuable.
Make recursive offenses of destroying your own team's equipment, either by poor pilotting or liberal use of fire on friendlies, result in longer respawn times for that player.
Sounds good, I'll be picking it up.
