Games Not Killers
by Steve Gibson, Aug 14, 2002 10:28am PDTA federal court yesterday refused to reinstate a $33million lawsuit that was trying to pin the blame for a high school shooting spree on videogames and movies. This is the latest in a series of victories for the videogame industry which has certainly come under some heavy scrutiny in the past few years. id Software specifically was represented in this case as they defended Quake, Doom, and Castle Wolfenstein.
''We find that it is simply too far a leap from shooting characters on a video screen (an activity undertaken by millions) to shooting people in a classroom (an activity undertaken by a handful, at most),'' Judge Danny Boggs said in the ruling.

Really, if games were so 'dangerous', wouldnt you hear about a new school/post office/work shooting everyday?

The court decision is irrelevant because as we all know the games arent to blame and even if the court was wrong and decided to allow game companies to be sued, the girls are still dead from some insane kid with a gun.
Even the prosecutor must've gone "a-ha"

seems to me there is little deterrent to just try to sue for such things. or maybe it is that the lawyers who take these cases get payed anyway.
the judge should fine the lot of them for entering a frivolous lawsuit.

The appeals court also said the content of the video games, movie and Internet site are protected by the First Amendment right to free expression.
After those fools in the IGDA pressed that suit about roping off M rated games in arcades and that Limbaugh tard stated that "games are incapable of expressing ideas and not protected by the first amendment".
Aw Aw Awyeah.
For all I know they can sue the usarmy because they are spreading propaganda on how cool their weaponary is.... but again that is just as far fetched as the video game issue.
