Optimus Prime's 1st annual Ohio Shacker LAN party in REVIEW!

Well here's a special treat for you all. Instead of reviewing the comments like I used to I'm changing it to review the pics of the LAN party. To me it wasn't all that great when you think your 3 hours late for an 11 a.m. party that never really got started until 11P.M. Due to the fact that SOME people didn't mention had to work that day! So it was me and LoCo for a long while there talking about shit and of course my #1 hobby collection Transformers. :) Now since I took the pics they have a Transformer kinda theme to them. It was just so cool asking everyone I could find to hold a 2 foot robot in front of a camera. "Could you hold this for me, please" *click* *FLASH!* :)

How many of you act just like your shack character in the real world? Like would you say the things you say here, act the same way, like the same people etc..?

Cause I was just thinking about how different I act on the shack.. and was wondering if maybe the shack-me is the real me and the real-world me is the false me?!

cause if you ever get to know me on a personal level (say you're one of my family members), I'm the biggest asshole ever, but in the real world I'm the nice, quiet guy.

Could I get a little Linux help?

I'm trying to run Knoppix 3.1 06-08-02, but when it boots the kernel I get "Unknown bridge resouce 0: assuming transparent" and halts--I think. I haven't really let it sit there, but I'm betting it crashes, since every Linux kernel I've tried crashes after it detects IDE devices. BSD, BeOS, and QNX all work fine, however. Whee!

I coulda swore I mentioned this before but just so you guys dont panic...

I will be talking with the QuakeCon folks about getting a section of the BYOC marked off for Shackers tomorrow.

One of the main organizers also happens to be the guy who helps me out at the colo room when we're dicking around with failed drives on the servers so I kinda know him and stuff. Generally the id Software guys are quite nice to me as well so I dont think it will be a problem.

As for official shack "functions" like going out and doing stuff, dunno yet. I'll see if I can get something organized but I'm going to be pretty tight on time during the event because of other silly stuff.

OK i've finally managed to scan and upload some of the more choice pictures i took on my holiday. Here's a short blub of what happened for all the initiated.

-Went for a big family holiday to stay with my uncle in Nice, France. Had a great time stayed in a beautiful mansion, had freindly and great people looking after may. Was taken in trips to monte carlo in a SE bentley etc. Met Bono, Michael stipe, stevie wonder, etc. - for a proper list of what went on here's some of the posts describing what happened.

Has anyone here played Warrior Kings? I never heard of it until I saw it on the shelves at Best Buy this weekend. I bought it on an impulse because it looked like a mix between the art style of etherlords and the gameplay of Shogan + Age of Empires.

Here is my very quick review:
shitty single player (mostly due to really horrible AI), and it's a resource hog. oh yeah, and alot of the sounds, especially for the spearmen, are half ass at best. The manual is a total joke, as are the tutorials which is non-interactive and doesn't tell you any of the commands in the game. Apparently there is some good documentation on the cd, but I haven't checked yet. Oh yeah, and when the soundtrack track you are listening to reaches its end it cuts off abruptly and there is dead silence for about 10 seconds before the music comes back on loop. There's alot of shit like that that screams "OH MY GOD I'M MEDIOCRE, I'M MADE BY FRENCH PEOPLE, AND THE QA DEPT THAT TESTED ME WERE ALL AUTISTIC!"

Here's the thing though: in multiplayer, HOLY SHIT IT IS FUCKING FUN. I played it with my friend on the lan in my old apartment and that's where the game really shines. For some reason, the AI seems MUCH better for your units in MP, I don't know why. You can make hundreds of units, 3 distinctly different paths of evolving your army (pure tech [cannons, guns, etc], evil [demons, etc], and holy [angels and what not]) and this is all decided by what alignment buildigns your create rather than picking a race from the outset...like to become evil you make a stone henge and start sacrificing your people..

It's very, very epic feeling at time. Very good use of terrain in a game, very cool units, great graphics for all you graphics whores, and the world is beautiful. The battles are alot more tactical than the average fps.

There isn't a skirmish mode, so if you buy it it would be only for the MP which is worth the $20 imo. Maybe that's just the novelty talking. It definately isn't a top notch game and it has alot of flaws, but if you manage to look past them the game can be a blast.

So whoever put the kitchen knives back in the little wooden knife block thingy, put a small one in the big slot with the big knife. So this morning I go to grab the big knife and it pull this little one out with it, out of the block, off the counter, and STABBING INTO MY FOOT. Of course, I only thought I'd get a little nick, but I look down and my foot is literally SQUIRTING BLOOD all over the kitchen floor.

On the bright side, this gives me the day off ;)

I got a letter. There's something that I don't get, in the upper right corner it says shipping was $0.92. I paid the seller $8 just for shipping and a lot more for the item itself, did I just get screwed in a way? I was watching the 2 towers preview lastnight and there is apretty big spoiler in it if you don't know the story.. there is a scene with gandalf ..I mean is it common knowledge that Gandalf wasn't totaly killed by the Balrog? it seems to me that if you didn't know the story and saw that it would be a spoiler.
