I smell hype in huge Costco bulk sizes.
Don't forget a large part of performance/compatibility is software drivers.

I've asked Trident SPECIFICALLY if it supports Vertex and Pixel Shaders 2.0, and after a little hemming and hawing, they admitted it did not. At first they tried that "it supports all the features necessary for DirectX 9" crap, but that just means they can make DX9 drivers for it. A GeForce 256 "supports all the features necessary for DirectX 8," after all, and has DX8 drivers. It just doesn't support any of the cool features of DX8 that weren't in DX7.
When these cards are released and reviewed, Trident's marketing is going to turn around and bite them when everying jumps up and says "they said it was DX9, and it's only DX8! They lied!"

Pretty strong words.
