A lot of people had comments on that MSNBC DSL article I posted early this week, and I guess we werent alone since the guy who did the article has done a follow-up which is equally as interesting.

    I would have DSL if I could get it, but I am too far from the phone company\'s central offices. My cable modem only does downstream, averaging 20k/s. 75k/s on a good day. 100k/s when the weather is perfect and the Cable Gods are pleased. I got 300k/s once, but that was after I erected a small shrine to the Bandwidth Gods in my backyard and spent a week abasing myself before an image of Ted Turner. Upstream is 56k analog. The lowest ping I ever got in an online game was 130ms.

    ANYWAY! My plan is to win the lottery and install a T1 line to my house...always at my PC double clicking on my mizouse. Upgrade my system at least twice a day; I\'m strictly plug \'n\' play. I ain\'t afraid of Y2K!

    People with low pings: how you guys deal with lpb-whiners? Seems like everytime I jump onto a server, I\'ll start my fragging, and some loser will start flooding \"Yer all ping!\" etc etc etc. I\'m the type that asks ahead of time whether anyone minds if an LPB joins...you guys got any snappy comebacks, or you just ignore it? It sounds stupid to say I\'ve been playing since Qtest (which I have), and I\'m not the world\'s best trash-talker, just wondering what other people do. Generally I just keep the killing, but that usually pisses em off more.

    i just wish i could dsl. out of range for USWest (bah) and all the other providers around here that go through Covad make you sign year long contracts. So i\'ll be going cable. i don\'t even know if i\'ll be here in a few months, much less a year. And i\'m on aol too. It really isn\'t nearly as bad as everyone thinks it is (yes, begin the flaming, someones defending aohell). I can find good servers to play halflife on. 300-350 ping, otherwise, playable. anyways, satan gave me a taco, and it made me really sick. give us some more news!
