No C&C Renegade 2

According to a post on GameSpyDaily, we won't be seeing a sequel to C&C Renegade any time soon. They link to a messageboard post on the official Westwood forums (currently not working) where someone from Westwood mentions

"Just to end the speculation, we were working on a sequel to Renegade, which was [situated] in the R[ed]A[lert] universe and focused mostly on multiplay but it has indeed been cancelled."

Response to the first game was pretty mixed.

I currently Run an 18 player Renegade Server on an OC48, It is FULL nearly 19 hours a day. I still love playing it. I just wish they would put out a good linux server port.

Man this stinks. This game was really fun to play multiplayer. They do have some issues with performance. You would expect this game to fly at 1280 x 1024 32-bit color with an Athlon XP GeForce IV Ti4600, but nooooo it lags alittle in heavy combat with everything jacked up. This is the only game where I have to lower a few of the settings to maintain atleast 40 FPS for a low.

Damn. The first was not game of the year material, but I did really enjoy it. The single player was (nicely) short, but had more character than alot of games. The multiplayer was good, it just needed some more programming hours behind it.

I really hated the SP game (kinda fun, but the engine sucks bigtime, I had massive slowdowns when INSIDE closed maps, and it got repetitive fast) but I really though the MP aspect of it was helluva fun, for ffa-ish matches. Getting the invisible tank and running over people, yeah!

It was as lagged as a game could get, but on a lan or @ fast servers, it was one of the best mp games I've ever played. Almost as good as TF.

I play renegade on a regular bases, for those who actaully played the full version they will agree it requires alot of team work unlike other games.

Wow, that's a let down. Renegade was one of the best single player games to come along in a long long time. The interaction of the characters and the constant resupply from the helicopters and other support staff.. made you feel like you were in a real war.

And the multiplayer is really fun, could maybe use some tweaking and better netcode, but I still play it evey week. Damn. Maybe in 2-3 years they'll announce something.
