UT2003 Facing Worlds Screenshots
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 15, 2002 6:30am PDTPlanet Unreal has two screenshots from the Unreal Tournament 2003 version of the Facing World map which shipped with the original Unreal Tournament. Looks great. We need an updated DM-Morpheus though!

Damn, I wish I had found the secret high-tech egyptian levels in Quake 3! How did you unlock them?
>>...and the same weapons and the same gameplay and...
Yes and no. It's a sequel. Something old, something new.
>>How come they made the same map over again ?
There are several returning/updated maps in UT2003. Curse, Phobos, Face, etc... What's wrong with that? I would have killed for Q3 to have shipped with an official update on the Edge...

In short, bezier curves look good enough and better than anything else currently out, why not use them?

well, the exterior at least...
The interior on this looks swiggity.
The only thing I would fault is a couple of textures which will hopefully be tidied up. It's really nit-picking but I'm kinda anal about this kind of thing.
e.g.
1) The bottom of the platform at the top-left of the indoor picture, there's all those tiles with the painted circle etc. and most of them get cut in half... If you really made that room you'd put the painted tiles somewhere else. (Could be fixed by shifting the texture towards the near wall a little bit.)
2) Again on the indoor shot, the textures at the top of the place where the statue sites at the back of the room do not match up at all with the textures of the back wall which the statue-hole is carved out of. It really spoils it for me when this happens because the illusion of textures being 3D, rather than completely flat, is ruined when you have totally different things touching along the vertex of a polygon.
I can't fault anything else though!

"Digital Extreme and Epic have decided to each take responsibility for one of the two games we've been working on together. Having one team work on each game in one location should help them both get done sooner and be more differentiated. Epic will finish UT2003 while Digital Extremes will concentrate solely on Unreal Championship for Xbox. DE will be specifically working on the unique features and content going into Unreal Championship while we put the finishing touches on UT2003. "
So DE has turned over UT2 to Epic... that's a little wierd. Actually if I was DE I'd be a little perturbed that a game so close to being finished was taken out of my hands... Why switch teams at the last minute? That seems like it would delay it. My guess is that they've spent so much time polishing UT2 that UC is looking a little dated, having sat on the shelf for what, 8 months or so, waiting for the Xbox to launch their broadband network. Now that the time is finally rolling around, they have to go back and re-import UT2 back to UC. (I mean all the fixes and tweaks they've done)
