UT2003 Demo Woes

Mark Rein from Epic has made a post to the Infogrames forums with word on what's up with that UT2003 demo that so many of us thought was just around the corner. Well it looks like it's 'more than two weeks away' still. bummer.

[snip] I know this might be disappointing to many of you eagerly waiting for the demo but as soon as we think we're 5-7 days away I'll let you know. I thought we'd be done with the demo by now but I underestimated. My apologies for that.

Also there hasnt been any new word on where the Unreal demo is. Doh. Thanks Andrew

geez now i know why 3DR just say 'when its done' because they cant really keep dissapointing us with fricken delays n shit, when we have a release date we expect it, or atleast around it, with WiD it pisses us off but its not like they owe us anythign anyway until we PAY for it, and you can always find out if a game is good before paying for it :) (talking about demos not warez!)

It's simple. The demo has problems. This necessitates what game companies like to call polishing -- or as we in advanced high tech circles like to say, "fixing." If the demo worked as it should, it would be out right now. It doesn't. So wait until it does.

They should have not even issued this statement. Bettter to release it late without fanfare then be a dick for delaying it.

This is disapointing of course, but I'm all for them releasing a quality product. That only thing that concerns me is that releasing the demo this much later than they had anticipated is going to puch back the commercial release a bit as well.

The other problem is that they're really pushing the pro gaming aspect of UT2, but with the Summer CPL thing a week away now, they're going to miss a really big event and have to wait till the winter one to get the pro scene going.

Personally, they can take as long as they well please. I just want a quality game to play that's fun. Just wait. It's just a game, the longer that they spend polishing the demo = the better experience for you. Do you want a half assed demo to play, or wait an extra 5-7 days and get a great demo?

I think it would be great if demo's weren't announced or mentioned at all, until they were finished and up and ready for download. Like.. suprise! or something. We've heard this game is coming out this summer, why not leave it up in the air? The hype machine is working fine without false estimations. UT is a great franchise that'll sell no matter what BS is spread from week to week.

Not to be mean or anything... but don't overestimate your time-frame... I mean these are programmers/managers and they are screwing up on their new/simple/etc- math? I realize we all make mistakes, especially where time is concerned, but it seems like the majority of the industry at this point aren't too good at coming up with dates that are solid. (Then again there's my previous comments about DNF that come back to haunt me... at least they are not getting our hopes up.).
