The port is in development at Gearbox, where they are also working on James Bond: Nightfire and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. A Mac version is being developed as well, by the guys at Westlake Interactive. When? Summer 2003.
"PC gamers worldwide will soon be able to dig into the addictive gameplay of 'Halo,'" said Stuart Moulder, general manager, Microsoft Game Studios. "By combining the success of 'Halo' on Xbox with Gearbox's proven talent in the first-person shooter genre, PC gamers are guaranteed a lively and 'up-all-hours' single and multiplayer experience on the PC."<snip> "We've been dying to play Halo online with a PC ever since its spectacular launch last year," said Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford. "The team at Gearbox has the experience and the talent to not only bring Halo to the PC, but also to add enhancements that exploit the multiplayer capabilities that PCs are known for."

A great many people were drooling over this game during it's development, myself included. At the time, it was at the forefront of video game technology, AI, graphics, and especially physics.
Once the Xbox announcement took place (you can go back and check the thread from that day;) everyone who was eagerly awaiting the game was devestated and horrified.
The point being: Since that fateful day, when MS intervened, all of those gamers had moved on to expecting bigger and better things. Had Halo come out for PC originally, it would've been a great hit. A huge community would've developed, MODs, and TC's could have been expected. But now, that prospective community has moved on, and is expecting different things. It's not so much that the game is THAT outdated, it's simply that the PC community is looking to some other ideal, the ideal that Halo replaced. That ideal will be where the next big community develops.

Have you even looked at the power of the Unreal Warfare engine? UT 2003 aside it looks amazing. The realisim that is possible with it absolutly demolishs Halos now outdated engine severely.
And if you dont think it will suck when is the last time you saw a decent console port? I honestly cant remember one.
No I will not buy it, no I do not have it on the xbox (Dont own a xbox), yes I have played it on the Xbox and beat it (Friends system).
The only argument you can give is why people should play it is vehicles. Just wait till a year from now and see how amazed you are at what else is out.
Halo could of been the cream of the crop but a year from now its just xbox leftovers.

Saying Halo PC will blow your socks off when it comes is pure stupidity.

It should be out a lot sooner, I wonder wtf they have to "port"...
(I've worked on X box games, and I honestly don't understand why it should take an entire year)

Four years ago, Halo was coming to PC from Bungie, and would push the limits by "harnessing the power deep within modern 3D accelerators."
Next year, Halo will be coming to the PC from Gearbox, and will push the limits of probably last years hardware.
When it was originally coming, I think part of the hype were the cool graphics. But now that doesn't look too prominent anymore... Oh well, I'll still give it as much consideration as any other game I want to buy.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I sure wish they'd add a CS style game mode to the PC release. At least the vehicles could play a bigger role.

Actually, if I had to make a prediction, I'd say that this game will be the most warezed in history, just out of the spite that the majority of the hardcore hold for all the cockteasing that MS has put us through.
Actually, if we really all wanted to get back at M$, we could all but Xboxes, but no games. :) They lose something like $150 for each one they sell. Just get that $30 add on that turns it into a DVD player and use it that way.

It appears as though Bungie is already developing and creating content for the next incarnation of Halo which will involve a heavy amount of online stuff. Seeing as this PC Port is going to have the current Halo SP game, maybe Gearbox is factoring in time they have to wait for Bungie to deliver some of the new content that is MP related?
Even if they are developing their own content for the MP portion of the game, Bungie still needs to approve all of that content and probably lend a lot of direction. I am guessing this PC/MAC version is going to be a hybrid between the first Halo and the Halo Next that Bungie is working on.
It makes me wonder if they are going to try and achieve the retarded - allowing Xbox, Mac, and PC to all play against eachother online.

'That looks like a cool game. Let's buy the company and force them to turn their back on their Mac origins, and their PC fans. That way we can have a system seller for our console. Once the game is no longer technically relavent, and the hype has died down, we can let them release the game for the PC/Mac.'
Is it good business? Sure. But it pisses me off. Like everything else MS does. I don't own an XBox because I don't approve of their strategy of infiltrating my living room. I don't want them to have the same sort of control over my home entertainment system that they have over my computer.
