ATI R300 Pics

"top of the benchmarks"....yeah, riiight. That's what EVERY non-Nvidia card claims right before they come out. Then, when they're slower, they claim it's a "driver issue"

I just got a Ti4200 and overclocked it to 4400 levels for under 200$ US shipped (128mb retail) - so I'm afraid I'll be skipping this one - unless ATI release the R250 now (1 - >2 months) and the R300 for like 199$ US in 6->8 months (ETA of Doom 3 IMHO)

Basically, if Doom 3 isn't perfect on my 4200 in 1024x768x32bit with full details, I will upgrade to whatever is the best for it.

Interesting. Look like it will need a power suplly hookup ala the Voodoo5 5500.

I got a GF4 Ti4400 that I bought recently, so I won't be getting one of these ATI cards because it would be insane to do so with what I have currently. However, its cool to see ATI coming out with something competitive...I generally like ATI (partially because I've been predicting that they would become a major player in the gaming market ever since the Rage128 and I've been wanting to be right). If they can manage to get this thing out in August then I think they're going to be doing well (and ATI's one weakness is that they never get these things out when they want to, but it looks like they will get this out on time). If nVidia keeps to their 6month cycle and doesn't manage to get the NV30 out before the next expected cycle refresh, then I think ATI will have a window where they're the fastest which would work well for them (then if they can get a R350 out around NV30 time, and 3 months later release an R400 they'll be able to stay competitive). I'm babbling I know...and I'll just get whatever is fastest and/or gives me the most bang for my buck when DOOM3 comes out (be it the R400 or NV40), but its cool to see a lot of competition going on :).

Too bad ATI will be writing the drivers for this one. It had so much potential too.

Anyone want to trade an R8500 for my OCD GF3 Ti200? (stock GF3 levels) heh.

Really I think ATI has a monstar on thier hands that will be uncontested for a few months. But I like the system of 1- upmanship. Keeps the damn things reasonably priced.

I'll buy whatever is best around the ~$150 price point come Nov/December.

In regards to Asian sites getting this stuff up before US/Canadian ones, its because they don't give a shit about things like NDAs, and have little to no fear of legal litigation.

Someone please tell me why all these "first images" and "first benchmarks" etc always pop up on non-english sites. I mean, why don't the guys in the USA get first glimpses? They're always chinese or yugoslavian, or something...never american or canadian.

Its been quiet a while since that cards been out though. It shouldnt take them this long.

i'm definitely upgrading my elsa gladiac 920 GF3 to the R300. werd has it much of their dev crew is dedicated to "drivers", so it should be good.
