New Anox Shot

The guys at AnachronoxNews have scored a new screenshot of the Ion Storm game Anachronox in action. As always the game looks smoove. If you go to bars and tell chicks "Hey, I work on Anachronox" You are pretty much guaranteed to get laid. That's how lucky those developers are.

There are a few factors that make the Anox levels look that good. One is the fact that the artists on the team are doing the level design. This means that they can use the cool tricks they\'ve learned over the years, plus they can make their own textures thus making it easier to produce their \"vision\" of the level. In addition, the actor/camera scriptor that Joey wrote really adds life to the level (e.g. the guys walking on the \"roof\", the ships flying around, etc). As you can see, the results have been fantastic.

    RE: #29

Obviously you\'ll be limited to where you can go, much the same as your limited in any Quake based game. There are restrictions that must be adhered to regarding how much of the world is visible from any point in the world. There won\'t be the freedom of movement or exploration you\'d find in a Baldur\'s Gate, or Fallout, but it\'s a different kind of game than those. In any case, everyone has done a great job on that game and it will be visually fantastic, I think.

  • RE: \"Revolutionary\"

Almost without exception, I believe that if you see the word \"revolutionary\" associated with a title in development, it\'s probably not revolutionary. You can\'t \"plan\" revolutions. They simply happen. Whether or not the game is revolutionary is determined after it has hit the market. Unless the gaming industry and consumers accept something as revolutionary, the revolution simply doesn\'t occur. Quake was obviously revolutionary. In terms of technology, Quake was evolutionary -- plain and simple. First we have pseudo-3D environments, now we have fully 3D environments. The revolution that Quake created was not so much in coding and technology as it was in the gaming industry. The coding and technology was the vehicle that drove other dev. teams to create a new, highly competitive market for single- and multi-player FPS games. It created a change in the way people thought] about gaming. Will Anachronox, Daikatana, Deus Ex, or Dominion revolutionize gaming? Probably not. Will some of the titles be very good? I believe so. A game doesn\'t need to be revolutionary to be a great game. Call it a pet peeve -- I generally get annoyed when companies tout their products as revolutionary. I understand all too well what a marketing manager in the gaming industry is expected to do to push a product but -- damn. It can just get silly when it seems that every game coming out the door is called \"revolutionary\". It renders the term meaningless.

  • #16 & #17: Yes, it\'s actually more than 20, however I just round it off to 20 since it keeps increasing (which should be changing soon, as we hire on more webmasters). GeoCities.. hmm, I have actually _never_ had a free host in my life. I run XtremeNetwork.com, which consists of approx. 60+ domains owned by mplayer.com. I usually avoid dropping by forums much, but felt I\'d reply to some comments that were part of Steve\'s news item about one of my new creations (anachronoxnews.com).

Steve: I did actually work as a volunteer editor and reviewer with Hosebag at MPOG (Multi-Player Online Gaming). I later went from part time to full time exclusively with mplayer.com, as a independant contractor (I work at my own offices).

On another \'non-serious\' (I hate serious) note, I should have some new shots up of Anachronox in the next couple of days, along with some new sections. :)

  • Honestly, I don\'t send news to Steve, expecting him to post it. I usually send out news to my media friends so that they are \'aware\' of the news item, and can post it if they wish to. It\'s just the way of looking at it. I do have several close media friends who post anything I send, as I do in return for them, however seeing that it does say \'sCary\'s Shugashack\', wouldn\'t you expect him to post what he likes to see and read? Since I run 20+ news sites, it\'s harder for me to discriminate what to post to various sites, since it is my job and duty to provide my readers with that information. I\'m not too opinionated in this area and really don\'t feel it\'s a important issue, but I wanted to drop in my comments.
