Raven Shield Q&A
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 20, 2002 8:13am PDTThere is a Raven Shield Q&A on PC Arena, talking to Chadi Lebbos and Eric Begin of Ubi Soft about the third Rainbow Six game. The PC Arena guys ask about the choice of using the Unreal engine, how often they get engine updates from Epic, changes they've made to the engine, AI abilities, how navigation works, mission types and more. Actually pretty informative. Thanks Blues News.
PCA: One of the things we think is really cool about this game is the fluid leaning and up-and-down motions as well as being able to crack doors open just a little as opposed to completely - does the AI have the ability to do that as well? EB: The AI will do that. You can see, for example, when they throw a grenade into a room, they lean and throw the grenade. Around corners, the leader of the team will peek before going to make sure there's nobody there.

Just please, for the love of all things decent, make bullets drop off with distance and also become less powerful. It is so ridiculous to snipe an enemy the size of a dot with a single shot of an m16 100% of the time. Along with this, the pistol bullets seem to travel infinite distances at hitscan speeds and don't drop off at all. Even Delta Force, one of the least realistic military fps's, had bullet drop off (even though it was ridiculously implemented).
Also, try not to make the binoculars totally useless. The one's in GR are less effective than even the characters' natural optic zoom.
Lastly, one of the things I hated about Ghost Recon was that your AI teammtes couldn't see through bushes or foliage. Ok, fine, neither can the enemies and that's fine (I'd like to think terrorists have less perception than trained spec ops), but I know through first person *I* could see movement through the gaps in bushes that my teammates were totally oblivious to so it almost ALWAYS forced me to go rambo and cause unnecessary casualties because my teammates couldn't see the guy 5 feet away from them.
Other than those concerns, I am definately looking forward to this game, especially for cooperative play. GR was a blast for that.
