As noted in this press release, BioWare's Neverwinter Nights has shipped to retailers across North America. Many readers have already posted that they've picked up their copies, and people who mail ordered them should expect them to arrive in the next 24 hours. In anticipation, the game has been added to the ShackReviews database, although given the size and scope of the game it's probably a good idea to wait until you've played it for some time before writing a full review.

  • NEVERWINTER NIGHTS IN A NUTSHELL

It's a stand alone game. It has no connection to baldurs gate, other than it takes place in the forgotten realms world, and is based around AD&D 3rd edition rules (bg is 2nd ed rules though). You control one central character, but you can hire\meet NPC's to help you. there's a ~60 hour single player campaign, but the main focus of the game is the multiplayer aspect, where you get on with a group of friends, one is the dungeon master, and using the dungeon master client he can do almost anything a real DM would do in D&D, like take over a monster and control him, take over NPC's, add monsters, change things, etc etc. There's a powerful toolset to make your own worlds using tiles, and a very powerful C++-esque scripting language. 64 people per server max, although it's possible to link up servers to create a persistent world, and a dm can jump in at any time to add\delete monsters, etc etc.
