Carmack on DOOM3 Hardware
Q: "Assuming that the Hammer CPU is out within 3 months of D3's release, and Windows ?? 64bit is also out, what do you think the chances are of a 64bit binary for Doom 3? - slim? - none? - "mildly possible" - or damn certain?
A: Slim. A 64 bit binary is likely to be slightly slower than a 32 bit binary, because pointers will consumer more memory bandwidth. You only get a speed benefit from 64 bit when you need long integers, or you need to access more than (roughly) 2 gigs of memory.
Also, the Beyond3D guys have a few more very techy questions (Thanks HomeLAN) with JC talking about video stuff.

DOOM ENGINE MUST BE USED TO MAKE JK3

RAVEN SHOULD BE BANNED FROM MAKING GAMES EVER AGAIN! they shovel shit into the box and sell it, and you mindless fools buy it because of idiot reviewers who give anything with the star wars name on it 10.0/5 star ratings.
jedi knight 2 and sof 2 are the worst games ive played in a long time. they are a waste of cd's.-

The only redeeming thing about JKII, I thought, was the lightsaber. The lightsaber, and lightsaber only multiplayer, is awesome.
But the rest of the game sucks. At one point I was thinking to myself, "Here I am, in a swamp, doing jumping puzzles.... I'm in game Hell."
At the end of the game I felt it wasn't nearly worth the frustration. I can't count how many times I spent 45 minutes looking around a level for the one switch I needed to push, or tiny cave I needed to crawl into, or security key I needed. It was the opposite of fun. Nar Shadda made me want to claw my eyes out with those snipers.
