proportions all out of wack. i wouldnt run from this character, but would probably get killed laughing at it.
other than that the game looks pretty good.
looks dont really matter to me though, all i want is clean network code and reliable gameplay physics. ut didn't have that enough for me to play it online regularly, and neither did q3 with its server-side prediction. still playing ra2 for now. :b

Seriously, I really do like those shots, but the one with the skull over the door is uncanny. I disagree with bbq gibs saying that UT2003 has "caught up" though - you can see all kinds of extra details that Q3 had to omit (like the individual ridges on that roof, all the out-of-place stones in the wall, etc.). Maybe the level's just there to poke fun at Q3 or give refugees from id's space-dungeons a home.

1) What build version of UT2003 was being displayed at E3?
The latest one compiled just before E3. This was the first build I saw with a working Ion Cannon which is a ton of fun to use! What we showed on the show floor is essentially what we think the demo will be which consists of two DM maps (Antalus and Curse3), one Double Domination map (Suntemple), one CTF map (Chrome) and one Bombing Run map (Endagra). But, be warned, this could change. I don't believe there are any plans for a single player campaign for the demo.
2) What features were missing from the E3 build that will be added to the demo release?
The major ones I can think of would be the final server browser and stats tracking.

4) Are there any plans to release the server code to admins in advance of the demo release so that there will be some decent servers available to play on ?
No, not that I'm aware of. Once the demo is ready, it's ready and we don't want to be holding it back. I suspect it will take us a few more days after the Windows release to get the Linux server released.

UT 2003 on a German TV show, lots of questions answered (they are releasing an actual book dedicated to the editor), shows lots of gameplay, there is 5 vids. Watch em all.

There is some other videos out there too, for instance I have converted the QuickTime files from GameSpot complete to a 4:54 DIVX AVI and the game looks breath taking.
Do not judge a game until you have played it.

"The demo WILL include bots so you'll be able to play offline against bots. The single player campaign is more elaborate than choosing a level, a bot skill level, number of bots, etc. To play a botmatch you simply choose Instant Action whereas to play online you choose Multiplayer." - Mark Rein

Doom3's poly count doesn't seem like a huge leap either, but then again realtime lighting is being applied to every polygon! So it has more than a valid excuse.

Just remember that screen shots never do justice to what can be seen in game, and wait at least until you play the demo before you pass any judgement.

4)MSNBC and many other mainstream media outlets are pumping up the video game craze. (That means more and better games for us gamers)

UT has always been very different from the Quake games, and that's a good thing, in my opinion.
This game/engine may not look like Doom III, but comparing anything to a game coming out a year from now (or longer) is patently ridiculous.
The shots look cool, i can't wait to try the demo.

B) This game isn't made by id, why would anyone buy / \/\/4|23X0|2X it?
C) Hey, look, a level with gray stone in it, and a skull over the doorway. They must be copying id, cause as we all know, id invented gray stone and skulls.
D) This looks like a really good upgrade to the existing Unreal tech, and even though I'm not too excited about UT2, I can't wait to see what licensees do with the technology, like with Deus Ex 2.
E) I want this cause it's been a long time since I've played a game that isn't a total rip-off of CS.
F) Wow, that looks fun. I especially like the huge flashfire on the minigun. Mmmm miniguns...
G) That looks so good I just shat myself, I can't wait for the demo! (Someone hand me some new underwear and some baby-wipes)

It would be pretty cool if all the characters were fully robotic, instead of humanoid. When I see a robotic character coming at me, I get more of a feeling that an actual human somewhere is controlling it remotely... it actually feels more like an actual human is coming after me. When the character model is made to look human, I feel more like i'm just pretending that the character is really alive. does that make any sense? i can't really explain it so good. :-\
also if all the characters were robots, instead of gibs and blood you could have a rocking explosion when someone got killed, with mechanical parts flying everywhere. that would be a pretty satisfying way to kill someone.
