We reported earlier that the US Army is going to make a project based on the Unreal engine. According to a Press Release issued today, this project is an "innovative, realistic computer game providing civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today's premier land force, the U.S. Army". The action-packed "Operations" portion allows up to 32 players to enter into "virtual service" with the U.S. Army on the same unit mission. (In other words - it's multiplayer) "America's Army" will be available in August. The Army will distribute "America's Army" for free in response to requests at www.americasarmy.com and www.goarmy.com. Man, those Iraqi's are going to have a blast playing this! Update 1: Screenshots!
Update 2: An interview with one of the producers @ HomeLAN.

  • The problem is, this is hardly a recruitment tactic. The military has been using civilian programming for years. The marines were using variations of flight simulator engines that were incorporated in actual games a decade ago. If I recall, the Marines or Army also licensed the Flashpoint engine for simulators to. The point, look at the new tech coming out for the military, they want their people who will be using to actually be somewhat smart. And not everyone will be using the games engine, I suspect the more specially oriented combat personnel will be subject to it.
