I'm releasing the public beta test of Brainworks tomorrow (and the official version a week or two after that). I did a bunch of debugging tonight and found bugs in the following features:
- Item Timing
- Strafe jumping
- Missile Dodging
- Awareness system
Ooops! They ranged from "totally dysfunctional" (strafejumping) to "minor" (awareness), I've thoroughly tested all of them. They are excellent (except strafe jumping which is just 'pretty damn good' because I don't have access to the internal movement engine code).
Since my only "high bandwidth" ftp location is fileplanet, I'm letting you guys get the same thing I'm releasing tonight before I officially announce tomorrow. Waiting in line at fileplanet sucks, but it's the only mirror I have. You can use this link but it's not designed for massive traffic so don't spread this URL around!
http://www.planetquake.com/artofwar/tmp/brainworks-0-7.zip
PS: If you'd like to put up a mirror, shackmsg it to me and I'll include it in the release notice tomorrow.

xvdl and a number of other people are heaping blame on Bush and his administration for not "doing more" to prevent Sept 11th.
So let's look into this a bit. Let's say Bush did take everything seriously and it's now Sept 10th. The only way to prevent terrorist activity would be a total lockdown in security, prompting allegations of a "police state", etc, etc, especially since it was just a "threat".
Racial Profiling would have to be done at EVERY AIRPORT IN AMERICA, causing Arab groups to scream of racism and inequity. Liberals like xvdl would just scream and holler about that as well.
So tell me, liberals, what the fuck should he have done?

the whole 2d/3d thing is not an issue for me
the whole 'fps' thing isn't either - first person is just a medium, the shooter thing isn't mandatory (thief, system shock, deus ex, morrowind, etc)
the significant caveat that I don't think will be surmountable is content. I greatly fear the ravenization of the length. how do you craft a giant 3d world that can be explored, and then explored again when you acquire new goodies? you CAN do it, but outside of online rpgs (and morrowind :P), I have yet to see a truly massive 3d world crafted for a first person game. without a giant, sprawling, immense, monstrous penif world, metroid will be a bad shooter, instead of a great metroid :(

So there was nothing I could do there, and I found out after working for 37 hours over two weeks. The key to all this was that I didn't know if I would pass Calculus until two days after I signed up, so I assumed that I would be signing up for a class. Once grades got out, I concentrated on the job itself, and they never asked me if I was still signing up for a class.
It's all good, I guess; now I get to work with my father at the jobsite. I'm still as pale as a ghost, and a little out of shape, so I need this. It even pays better, too. And I'll definetly be able to go to Falmouth for the summer.

Several people close to the negotiations said Microsoft had been trying to force software publishers to offer their online games on data-serving computers controlled by Microsoft, a move that could potentially give Microsoft access to information about customers.
"Any developer who accepts an agreement that doesn't respect their relationship with the customer is like a turkey accepting an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner," said Jeff Brown, a spokesman for Electronic Arts.
Add to this the Leaked paper about the X-Box networking and you have the suck..

here's mine: integration of AutoCorrect and the Office Assistants into all of Windows. Every text box, from text fields in HTML pages in IE, to notepad.exe, to the Run dialog, is monitored closely by these two.
It looks like you're installing non-Microsoft software. Do you need "help"?

It sucks though. I am personally loyal to my boss, but I disagree with him on a large number of issues, which means I tend to side on the investor's side. I'm not really political enough to really play this game either.
