DAoC Update

Mythic Entertainment has released the 1.50 patch for Dark Age of Camelot, their popular MMORPG. There is now a Realm Ability system among many other changes and additions.

    I'm fairly certain there will never be the patch that makes DAoC fun.

      Perhaps not. But I'm looking forward to seeing how Mythic handles the engine change/upgrade that they're planning, just from the stand point that while their game is arguably more simple than some of the others, it has to have been the most trouble free launch of any MMoRPG to date.

      With the new additions to RvR abilities, I'm hoping that with enough counter-strike, morrowind, work, and even some DAoC I'll be able to hold out until the next big MMoRPG comes along, be that EQ2 or SW:G.

      EQ did a lot of stuff right. People will learn from it. Hopefully.

        I played both EQ and DAoC - I cant figure it out, but although DAoC is SUCH a better system (both the coding and the player development through skills) - I've just never enjoyed it as much as EQ. Its like I want to have to do corpse runs and camp spawns. WTF is wrong with me?

        EQ is my least favorite of all the big MMORPGs I've played. AC was lots of fun, UO had it's perks, EQ didn't do it for me. AO was just flat out boring.

        DAoC seems a lot more fun now with this patch for two reason...

        a) Ambient Sound System! It's great, now the world actually feels somewhat more alive.
        b) Realm Abilities make PvE go MUCH faster! Depending on the the skills you add, you can find that you're levelling 2-5 times faster than before. The worst part of DAoC has always been the excessive downtime, but now that's starting to diminish.

          Yeah? Well I'll have to get back in and give it a try. It hit 35 with a healer and got just board to death. So I made a hunter - hit 35 and got board to death. Have'nt logged back in in a month or two.

          EQ - while such a beating at times. The world just seemed to have so many more oppertunities for 'adventure'. Probably because of the corpse retrieval I guess - because you couldn't just run into a place (darkness falls for example) and check it out real quick cause you might loose your shit. Because of that, you had a lot more tension and excitement about adventuring places. Ive never had that feeling in DAoC -its just always, "ah crap there's another bubble of exp gone".

            I understand how you feel. I havn't logged in for over a month until a few days ago, when I read about the upcoming changes I decided to reinstate my account and give it a whirl, especially since summer was coming up and I'd have some more time on my hands.
