Creative on Fill Rate
by Steve Gibson, Oct 08, 1999 11:30am PDTEver since that statement from Glaze3D about the GeForce benchmarks sucking, Creative Labs has been in quite a huff. Have a look at their latest response in an attempt to make the card look better. I love that "I can't tell you why because of NDA" stuff. It's my favorite.
... do you always have to read a Z [buffer]? Nope, in some systems you can skirt this issue as well. Because of NDA's I can't tell you how Nvidia or 3Dfx or S3 or anybody actually gets more bandwidth out of a system, all I can say is that the simplistic calculations are utterly beside the point.

performance seems really stupid to me. The only reason that you are buying it is because
you are believing the company\'s hype. I would wait to see if the card can be what it was
originally claimed to be.
For people with V2\'s or TNT\'s its worth the gamble. But more recent 3d card owners should
wait this one out.
I find it funny how Creative says \"Q3 at 60 fps on the GeForce\" and yet all the benchmarks so far show that the board is almost the same speed as the TNT2. What do they think, people will just ignore the benchmarks and buy into the whole \"offload your CPU and have 5x more polygons\" mantra while evidence shows it to be false?
Personally I really really HOPE the GeForce will be a kickass, in the SDRAM version, because I\'m itching to buy a new graphics board right now that doesn\'t require a CPU upgrade and that will make a huge difference with my TNT. The GeForce has been disappointing so far.
having been doing this website for over 5 years now, ive bagged on just about every company in the industry by now...why? because it\'s fun and keeps the readers informed when they are being fed a pile of BS.
im looking forward to reviewing the geforce card first hand this weekend... should be enlightening.
The benchmarks. The NDA. The drivers. The excuses. Nvidia\'s history of lying. DDR will fix it.
The V4 is looking better every day.
