Morrowind Thread

by Steve Gibson, May 07, 2002 2:12pm PDT

Because apparently half the people here are still addicted to Morrowind, here's your dedicated thread of the evening to discuss the game. Make sure and give a warning if you're going to spoil a secret or plot point or anything like that. It's these filthy RPG games that are destroying the industry. Cant you guys stick to action games? Here's my brief impressions of Morrowind:

- It's an RPG - I might get it, it looks kind of cool.. for an RPG - Will it steal my life?

  • Can someone explain why I have all the skills required to advance, yet I can't get orders till I'm a Protector of the Fighters Guild? Right now I'm a swordsman, and I have all the skills required to advance, but she keeps telling me that there's no work for a swordsman. Hmm...

    Any advice?
Also... whats the con to stealing all over the place? I havn't found one yet...

    ***SPOILER***
In Suma (The S town? Forget the exact name... I know it costs 24GP to ride there from Balmora), if you got into the pawn shop, buy the glass dagger for 24gp. Then repair it yourself using a Journeyman's Hammer. Once its repaired, you'll have a dagger worth 4000GP!!! How the hell do I enchant this without having an enchant ability?

  • I'd just like to say this was money well spent. It's amazing. I've enjoyed adventuring the terrain, fighting to the bottom of dungeons, and reading the books when I got there. Some pretty interesting reading! It really is open ended and that's a HUGE plus. Morrowind is by far the most immersive RPG i've played.

But... I wish they spent more time on character animations, at least enough to make the move smoothly. I've got a 2.2/512/gf4600 and while the framerate isnt bad, the movements of the monsters are jerky. That kinda detracts from the glorious environments.

    On a side note:
I'd like to say that from the rpg's i've played, Asheron's Call has the best mage combat system. Plenty of options and lots of fun. I hope they dont make to many changes for AC2.
