I agree with what many have been saying.

this does me absolutely no good.

Even gamers don't need processors this fast. I mean... with modern computers, most of the work is offloaded to the GPU anyway, in games, for example, most X Box games don't come anywhere near filling the CPU pipeline, usually it's running at 30-50% capacity.. and that's only a P3 733. Honestly, for me, and Athlon 1700+ is good enough. I THINK that's where the "price break" is where it gets a LOT more expensive when you go up.

Funny how it takes intel a cpu with much less working IPC and an 800MHz lead to overtake the "inferior" AMD cpu. It's all marketing. While i must concede that the 2.53GHz p4 is slightly faster than a 2100+ (1733MHz) AMD Athlon XP, if we were building actual computers with these chips you'd end up with a faster overall AMD machine because you'd have an extra $250-$300 to spend on better/faster/more hardware. Also, this looks like another "paper" release from intel as PC1066 rambus is going to be very hard to get, and they don't have many 2.53GHz p4's in the channel yet. It's all media hype... I really hope AMD hands intel a harsh reality with the Opteron release.

I can't believe the most powerful intel chip paired with the most powerful graphics card is running the new UT Test with a max framerate of 50! That is just shitty. Who would buy a setup like this for next gen games that are coming out in another year. I know no one here wants to run doom 3, unreal 2, quake 4, etc.. at only 50 fps. There is nothing out that cant be run just fine with a p3 and gts. Once there is a game out then upgrade. Available hardware just isn't up to par yet.

Forgive my boldness, but from a purely MHz oriented comparison, Intel has had the lead for quite some time. AMD still does not have a CPU operating in excess of 1.8GHz (raw speed), though their XP processors are good performers.

The difference between the 2ghz and the 2.26ghz is like $300 unless I missed some components. But I imagine the price difference is insane right now to get bumped up 3% in performance. Price/performance got jacked.
