Shack/TechSmith/EVGA Contest
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 30, 2002 7:12am PDTRe-post: As part of the deal I made with TechSmith (who run BestGameShots), whom many of you have noticed carry a little logo in our screenshots section.. we're hosting a simple contest with a fancy prize. A screenshot contest. The prize? Well I talked the folks at EVGA in to giving us a GeForce4 Ti4600 w/ACS cooling. It retails for about $450. Here are the rules, keeping it simple.
- The contest is for "oh cool!" factor based on composition - Shots will be judged by the readers - The game must be a recent PC game (within past 4 years) - Nothing crude or attempts at humor. Sorry. - All shots will be resampled for equal image quality. (so the guys with the crappy vidcards who really need a GF4 have a fair shot) - Entries must be accompanied with a name/shipping address (Only way I could think of to easily prevent fraud) - I promise to throw away all addresses once the contest ends, dont worry - 1 screenshot per household, 800x600 resolution. - Open to everyone, including those not from North America. - Entries can be sent to contest@shacknews.com - We reserve the right to deny any screenshot we feel is unfit for the contestGo here to download TechSmith's screenshot app SnagIt. (Yup, its the catch!). The dirty marketing scheme being that you try out the app in hopes of winning the GeForce4, and hopefully during that time you get sold on SnagIt.

is this contest for artsy PhotoShopped images? or is it just for plain jane unmolested screenshots? the "rules" don't seem to specify.

I can see SnagIt being quite useful in business situations, for example for those creating game or software manuals, but it has little-to-no value for the averge gamer.
Let me guess, this gets nuked. @__@

Okay, tell me if this is legit: I took an old 1600x1200 screenie I had, I resized it, and captured the image with Snagit.
If this is legit, then do I submit it as a .bmp, .jpg, or .ssd?
aha!
