How about yesterday huh. It was pretty much bad. It's amazing to see how Counter-Strike can still kill a site. Thanks to Sander, after a while we had www.shacknews.com working pretty well, and lots of people got downloading. The New York server was unfortunately pretty ill configured, and we had to pull the download links from the frontpage. It did work after that since it was linked at several other locations. In the future, Shacknews.com won't be affected by file downloads as the main Fileshack page will be on another box. Of course then there was also the account problem. Bad bad bad. Of course, smart as we are we don't have daily backups. We did manage to restore most of the accounts. Other people I have been helping out, I don't think I ever emailed so much..ever. And we already have a ton of new accounts again. Makes you feel pretty bad though. And then, at 12am, the server died. But if you are reading this, everything is working again. And we are on the problem that is causing this. I'm sure there was a lesson to be learned but damned if I know what it was. Except maybe I will quadruple check queries. And make backups. That sounds good. It sounds like "running sites for dummies"!
