Late Night Consoling
by jason bergman, Apr 24, 2002 8:30pm PDTSo was last night's Zelda story real, or not? I haven't seen anything to convince me either way. Some places are swearing that the thing is total bunk, while others have been completely silent on the matter. As far as I'm concerned, until I see a statement from Nintendo, or get some kind of hard evidence I won't dismiss the possibility. The fact is that Nintendo has dropped hints about a second Zelda game, and while my first guess would be for a GBA remake, I wouldn't be too shocked if it turned out to be a GameCube title. Still, I haven't seen any conclusive evidence that this is true, so don't mistake my train of thought for an endorsement. I'm just as clueless as the rest of you here.
- Yet another classic SNES title is getting brought back on the GBA...this time it's Super Ghouls n' Ghosts. Hopefully they'll make it a little easier this time around.
- Interplay has announced that their third person Xbox title Hunter: The Reckoning has gone gold, and will ship on May 21st. The game takes place in White Wolf's World of Darkness universe.
- GameSpot has posted separate text and video previews of the Xbox title Prisoner of War.
- Also at GameSpot are some new shots from the upcoming PS2 FPS Aliens: Colonial Marines.
- LucasArts has another teaser image up at their E3 page.
- Sony Ericsson has some plans to integrate their smart phones with the PS2. From the way this Q&A makes it sound, they're looking to utilize it like some Dreamcast games used the VMU.
- Live in Dallas or Vancouver? Microsoft is looking for gamers to participate in "gamer groups." These are paid positions.

drag and drop.
The Verdict : A+
Button placement is much better. The black and white buttons don't take as much effort to hit, and reaching across the controller has been eliminated. Button feel is much better with the flatter circle buttons as opposed to the tear-drop shaped ovals of the original controller. the diamond patter is also more "familiar" and is a delight to use in every game. The triggers are the same and that's a good thing. the D pad is far and away the best part. Its no longer "squishy" and "loose". ergonomics are improved slightly. while I never had a problem with the original controller, I enjoy being able to wrap my hands all the way around the S. the weight and feel is super. The thumbsticks are virtually unchanged and that's not a bad thing, though the right stick is shaped like the left one. no more bump and dimple. they're both dimples. great feel in halo.
awesome in madden and NHL2002. awesome in DOA3 (this game gets such an improvement from the S compared to the rest) same as original in Project Gotham and Amped. I played the oddworld demo to test it with a platformer game and noticed no real difference.
if you're into sports and fighting games, you owe yourself to get this controller.

Sony Ericsson also believes this migration will fight standards fragmentation. Why is that?
If you're a developer for Symbian, in real terms you're limited to the top end today. If you write an application to run on a lot of phones, you have to write for Symbian, for Java, for the Sony Ericsson or Nokia proprietary OS. That's what is meant by fragmentation.
If we can migrate Symbian to the mid-tier, you'll be able to write that application once and play it on a lot more phones, so it has the effect of unifying that market.
Gee, so once you're the biggest fish in the pond, we users don't have to worry about anyone writing for those "other" OSes. Someone should tell Microsoft about this strategy!

Very interesting.
This year's electronic gaming expo promises to be one of the best in years as far as I am concerned. On the PC side you've got Unreal II, Unreal Tournament 2003, Knights of the old Republic, Never Winter Nights, Star Wars fucking Galaxies, and Doom 3. Oh, and a couple of little games from Nintendo called Mario Sunshine, Zelda, Star Fox and Metroid. I'd bet money Sega will be showing off Shinobi somewhere on the show floor. Namco will probably have Soul Calibur 2 and Square should be showing Final Fantasy XI. These are just the first ones I can think of off the top of my head. Last year was nice what with the new consoles and all, but this is the year we get to see what these consoles can really do. Add to that the fact that each year we always see a bunch of stuff that we had never even heard of until E3. In fact a little bird actually told me what Nintendo has up its sleeve this year and when he told me I punched him in the face and called him a liar. When he got back up he promised it was the truth, and I believe him. I don't want to say anything that will get anyone in trouble but I know I'll be heading to the Nintendo section first this year.
