Here's your where are they now for the day. Trident, once famous for amazing 3D performance has resurfaced with a new 3D mobile chip claiming super DX8.1 performance numbers. It's one of those tilebased style cards kinda like the KyroII.

  • Holy shit, this thing's capable of 4 pixels - with 8 textures per pixel!]b - per clock cycle?! Last I checked, the GeForce4 was still only capable of 4 pixels w/2 textures per clock (as were the 3 and 2 before it). I know the original Radeon could do 2 pixels with 3 textures per clock, but what happened with the R200? Did they also go 4 pixels/2 textures?

Damn, this is one nice-sounding chip... let's just hope A. They deliver on the hardware (they don't pull a BitBoys Oy), and B. They deliver on the software (they don't pull an S3).

The fact that they aren't announcing any plans for the desktop does make me wonder... do they know something about what's coming down the pipe from ATI and NVidia that we don't? Perhaps their next-gen parts do even better.
