UT Servers At 32
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 05, 1999 8:24am PDTEpic's GreenMarine updated his .plan with the advise not to set player limit above 32, as it will do no good.
I saw a CTF server running with a 50 playerlimit. Running servers with more than 32 players is a no-no because there are hardcoded assumptions about the max playerlimit. Maybe I'll talk with Steve about increasing it to 64. (I guess there isn't really any reason to choose programmer numbers like 32 and 64 for something like this.) I seem to recall at one point there being a very good reason for us keeping it at 32. Certainly server performance would be...ah...highly questionable at 64 players :) Anyway, running with more than 32 in the current demo will probably cause a lot of odd error messages to get logged when the 33rd person joins.

gib fountains.. hehe
must have been cool
If you remember back to quake con 99 they had 127 people playing at once on q3test2
and i\'ve seen 64player q3 lan partys.. (hell on earth on q3test1 eheh) yet unreal blows utter goats when you attempt to play with 12-16people on the net while quake3 is just flying along with 16people..
i say its unreal tournament\'s shitty netcode/servercode..
quake3 is still better
*puts FLAME ME sign on back*
A Pro 200 should be able to kick some serious ass but that depends on how much RAM you have though.
We\'ll be having a LAN party this weekend and I have a PII 300/256 Mb RAM/NT4 that we\'ll be using as a server. I\'ll try to post some stats/numbers on Unreal Nation if you\'re interested.
