Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Apr 04, 2002 5:46pm PSTLuckily my head didnt explode today, I did mange to probably set a record for number of stupid things done, at one point having to have Maarten email me his cached version of some html because I uh.. goofed? hehe. Productive day though, and I got to eat more Easter candy.
- Everyone is happy about the 2headed snake - Remember this chick in the Whitesnake videos? Ok, maybe it's just me - IBM & AT&T wanna help you out with privacy - Digital watermarking - Celine Dion is crashing computers. - Radio station wastes 10 minutes of Bill Gates' time.Lastly, is it the weekend yet?

Aie-yi-yi, I got the fucking Lightsaber now let me out stupes. I guess this is gonna make the game longer but at the cost of any enjoyment. Puzzles you solve once you just find the trigger/trick are gimmicks are gimmicks aren't games. Gah. I really like this game but it will never top the 8 mark out of 10 now, and it's looking like a lower score if they do this alot.

So Shackmarks. Maybe there could be a small marker that you could click and then it would file the link away for you. And the system could hold like 10 links or so... When you reach 10 and add a new one, the oldest link would go poof.
So what does everybody think? Steve or Maarten if you're around?

"TOKYO (CBS.MW) -- Nippon Telegraph and Telephone said Thursday it suffered a larger-than-expected loss in the fiscal year ended March due to an extraordinary loss of more than 2 trillion yen ($15 billion) as a result of write-downs and restructuring costs.
...
To take responsibility for the losses, DoCoMo's top executives will take a pay cut and give up bonuses. DoCoMo's president and chairman will have their salaries cut by 20 percent while the deputy president faces a 15 percent reduction."

I just went to one for a birhtday party and the food was devistating, I was in pain by the second course because it's so filling. While we were enjoying the meal and drinking our steins of imported loewenbrau, this crazy brass quartet of old dudes in leider hosen were going off in the corner, playing every classic sing along son in the book. They played every sing along song imaginable; "its a long way to tripararie", the sond of music sound track, "Daisy.. Daisy", and of course the mandatory "Waltzing Mathilda" (its sydney after all) and tons more songs. It was going off, All these ppl from hen's nights and birthday parties bouncing around and singing at the top of theur voices after too much schnaps. Amazing... It was like a scene from a WW2 u-boat movie, where the crew would get wasted and be merry, before going out to sea.
Why didnt anyone tell me these places existed before!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

So I'm walking in the door of my building this morning...I have my laptop case in one hand and my cell phone in the other. I get to door of the building and there is this 50ish gray haired woman in front of me...she opens the door, walks through and doesn't look back. My hands are full so I have to hit full stop or smash head first into the edge of the door that SHE DIDN'T HOLD OPEN! I mean come on, I was RIGHT behind her.
Don't people know that it's common courtesy to hold the door for someone that is coming in behind you?

Since this was early in the morning I didn't get to fly a jet like usually but rather a Saab 2000, a small propeller plane. I took some pics, since I know few people on here have anything better to do, you can check em out while I compensate for not sleeping any tonight. Yay.

Is there something I'm seriously over-looking here ? I'm gonna hunt for some updated drivers ( GF2 MX, 32 Mb ) but I have a feeling 32 MB of texture memory aint enough for this game :/ I'm running it on faily low settings - 16 bit, 640x480, low detail, etc - and it's still giving me problems. Other Q3A engine games ( JK2, Q3A, etc ) run fine.

Upon formatting and rebuilding an office computer since it was running like shit, I reinstalled said program.
Then, that wonderful program, seeing that the database was of a more updated version than the out of the box version, triggered the programs anti copy/theft protection, which disables the database completely until verified either by a call home via the internet to the head office authentication server, or a manually entered decode.
Problem 1: the internet authentication has never worked, bug in the program.
Problem 2: the tech support staff who could manually give me the decodes DONT WORK WEEKENDS
So here I am, still sitting at work at 10:40 Friday night, thinking of exactly what I should say when both my home and mobile phones start ringing around 7:32am tomorrow morning when the rest of the office staff arrive for work and notice that they can't even open the program, let alone do work.

with every step I take in this heavy snow. Euphoric from the burn of whiskey, I thought I
could outrun the Post Rate goons. I was wrong. Dead wrong. I'm thinking this may be the
last mistake I ever make -- messing with The Shack. There's three things in life you don't
do: rat, make a hit without permission, and mess with The Shack. You don't cross The Shack.
You cross The Shack and you've got goombas from here to Palermo looking to bust you up and
make it so you never existed. But I've got a plan. I'm going anonymous..."
