No SoF2 Bots
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 02, 2002 2:30pm PSTAccording to this forum post on the Raven Software boards, Soldier of Fortune 2 will not ship with multiplayer bots. Though the message by Raven programmer Rick Johnson was posted on April 1, HomeLAN Fed has confirmed with Raven that this is not a joke.

If it's MAINLY single player focus, don't waste time on shit like bots - who plays vs bots in "mediocre" multiplayer games anyhow.
Do people play vs bots in Blood 2 or Shogo or Daikatana etc etc? - no they play bots in popular online games for practice and because the games are fun multiplayer.
Sof 2 might be fun multiplayer - but it won't be a "super" multiplayer focused game (CS for example)
Focus on single player plz - thank you!
even though I loathe CS

Seriously folks, this isn't a big deal. The bot code in Q3A is a horrible mess. I'm working through it and making a serious amount of progress. Like, just yesterday I finished adding a sound awareness system. It had an incredible impact on the realism of the bots. I don't know if the bot code will be commercial quality, but it will be significantly better than the code released in a commercial product (ie. Q3A), and the code will be publicly available. Don't give up hope.
And for the record, I've spent the past 4 months looking at the code and reworking it and I have multiple months ahead of me. Reworking bot code requires a serious amount of resources, and I'm not surprised these companies didn't have the time to pull it off.

You can't talk smack to a bot.
So basically it sounds like the AI doesn't know how to play CTF or other multiplayer modes, that's all. I suppose I can deal with that as long as the normal random generator sets nicely for skirmish.
SOF1 shipped without bots, and were it no for the HIDEBOT, developed by one of us, there wouldn't have been bots until SOF1 GOLD, if at all.
FUCK YOU, RAVEN.
Thanks!

Out of all those above-mentioned games, only UT shipped with bots. All of the others were afterthoughts.
Not everyone has a cablemodem, DSL, or T1 at their disposal.
EVERYONE does have the ability to host a game server that has an assload of bots, closely approximating the feeling of being online.
With waypoints and behavior variables now the standard, it's a no-brainer.
Thanks!

you cheer them for their inability to add bots to a game? were'nt games that were released 3+ years ago shipping with bots, like uh, rainbow six for example? OHH thats right, this game is a MOD to an already built game engine, kinda like what the Quake 3 mod making community does, I get it.. Oh well..
i have good internet speed, but usually enjoy what random comments bots have to say more than, well, those lurkers you do find on multiplayer internet games. true enough though, patience and enjoyment of the game will bring about familiar names and common grounds.
