VE noticed Hardware-One has already managed to grab a boxed version (in Singapore) of the Creative Lab Annihilator GeForce card, and put up a comprehensive review. Guess what? It ain't that fast.

q3demo1 in 32-bit:
640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x960
77.0 62.6 42.3 26.7
q3demo1 in 16-bit:
640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x960
82.7 80.3 68.4 47.0
Oh btw Hardware-One is being humped like crazy, so it may be slow in loading.

You seem to be violently opposed to the GeForce. What do you use now? Is it a V3? The fact is, brand names aside, the V3 was just as much of an improvement over the previous generation as the Geforce is over the current generation, and the GeForce ALREADY costs less than a V3 3500 (check price watch... $206 as opposed to $207). So, by your own argument, didn\'t you waste your money on the V3? Or do I hear an unfounded 3dfx bias instead. When are we going to wake up and just support the best thing, instead of being 3dfx or NVidia lovers... which is pointless.

  • The reason I am getting a GeForce card is because I am hoping the T&L engine will help gaurd against framerate drops that seem to frequent my computer durring multiplayer. I assume these drops are from increases in pollygon count and not from real fillrate or Internet connection problems (cablemodem and v3/2000) So will this really help my problem? Who knows... will this justify playing 250 for a new video card. Yeah if i can afford it sure. this is besides the fact that I want to get a pair of 3d Revelator glasses that will only work on Nvidia chipsets. Also I know that the Geforce will have more features then my v3/2000 card. Anyway My 2Cents.

  • Well, I have a TNT (used to have a Voodoo and a Voodoo 2 after that), Quake 3 runs at 48 FPS Timedemo on Q3Test1, 16bit colour, most extras taken off @ 640*480.

I\'m going to get a Geforce for the following reasons:

#1 - I can play at 800*600 and 32bit with everything on 14 FPS quicker - this to me is a pretty big difference.

#2 - I\'ve pre-ordered a card for £12 more that I can get a TNT2 Ultra, expected delivery next week (which I didn\'t believe until I read of the card in Singapore) - Sorry guys, at the moment I don\'t want a V3, in fact a member of the clan bought a TNT2U last week and he has V2 SLI (he\'s gutted btw).

#3 - I only run on a 15\' Monitor so 1280*whatever is a little immaterial for me at the moment. Maybe when I buy a new monitor, by which point something else will be out and the Geforce can go into the Server (W2K).

Answer me this - am I wrong?

  • Someone earlier posted that GeForce cards were going to cost $350 and so they were too expensive. Check Pricewatch. PCStop has 32MB Creative Labs GeForce cards for $206 (they are $249 MSRP) with a $10 shipping charge. Now who\'s gonna tell me that a $249 Voodoo3 3500 is a better buy? Tell me ONE way in which it is superior. Who? Yes, there will be GeForce cards in a month or so that have an MSRP of $349, but they will use DDR memory, which equals twice the memory bandwidth. Have fun waiting for your Napalms! I will have had my GeForce for about 4 months by then. :P

  • #211 uh.. your some 32bit zealot.. put a FUCKING SOCK IN IT!
Raise your hand if you think 16bit @ 60fps is better than 32bit @ 55
Now then.. if any one raises their hand they have a fucking right too.. because A) they want speed... B)32bit is for later when games actually have a good reason to use it
32bit is better than 16bit.. if you DO NOT KNOW THIS then shut your damn hole..B4 i come and beat you with a tack hammer.. (unless your in 16bit for the frames then i\'ll forgive you)
#211 you didnt have to go write a novel bout it...
and btw i can see the differnce.. yet its only in a few places and doesnt take away from game play :P
S3 2k might suck.. hehe unless diamond pulls off some physics defying drivers the s3 2k wont touch the Gh3yF0rC3
    V4/V5 where are they...... waiting..
gforce is a DECENT card.. nothing worth $350 to go buy if you just bought a G400 max or TNT2 ultra or v3 3000-3500 (unless you got the $$$ in which case send me $500)
now for the LOVE OF GOD please shut the fuck up about 16 bit v 32 bit... (voodoo3 16bit is still damn good compared to the tnt2\'s fugly 16bit)

  • \"Guess what? It ain\'t that fast.\"

    Yea,big surprise there....
Nvidia is a hype demon, and they owe it to morons who will swear their life to and rediculous arguments over a company with an unreleased video card, that no one who isnt working for nvidia, had tested yet. Its like they take a dumbfuck pill and mentally take a trip back to first grade arguing with you that their dad can beat up your dad.

Personally ill wait till 3dfx releases their card, even if its a few months off, with nvidias 6 month dev cycle their newest one should come out soon after. I dont give a fuck whos name is on the card, if its the fastest, best card to have then im going to buy it regardless if the chipset company name starts with a letter or a number.

  • Fuck you all. I have a V3 3000 @ 183mhz and it runs q3test @ 640 x 480 at a constant 100fps. If i go to a higher res the fps dropps. I wish i bought a TNT2U but its getting too late for that with the new cards coming out. I\'m not rich like everyone here, so I get what I can afford. $300+ for a video card? Fuck that shit. I would rather spend it on a processor that could push an older video card just as fast. My point? Sounds like NVidia is just making their own version of a Banshee. If it goes faster, then whup dee do. If the Savage 2000 is faster, then who gives a fuck. You all know your just going to buy the fastest one, and then your going to start bitching about who\'s going to have the next fastest card. Why don\'t you all just shut up and be happy that Video Card companies are trying to make cards that are fast enough to run these damn games. And who ever said you needed 700mhz computer to have fun playing a game? Quake is as fun as ever. Quake 2 is as well. Quake 3 will be, but how much MORE fun is it just because it has better graphics?
