MechAssault Revealed
by jason bergman, Mar 22, 2002 7:38pm PSTAt a party at Sony's Metreon building in San Francisco (fun place), Jordan Weisman of FASA/Microsoft showed off MechAssault, a previously unannounced Xbox game. The game utilizes the Halo engine, and features some incredibly detailed 'mechs and fully destructible environments. Check out the first details, screenshots, and even a trailer movie over at Team Xbox for more, and here's an excerpt:
The game play is that of urban warfare with futuristic war bots. If you are familiar with Mech Warrior on the PC, then you may have a better idea what the game is about. You will be placed in fully destructible cities where you can choose to ignore your missions and go around smashing concrete and firing rockets at enormous skyscrapers. From the screenshots you will be able to tell that MechAssault uses a very powerful 3D graphics engine that will capture the zillion pieces of flying glass from collapsing buildings like it came straight out of a high quality 3D Studio rendering. The game will support online play and split screen multiplayer. The replay value would be seemingly endless. The controls themselves are similar to Halo. Remember that Steve Fowler also PMd Halo. Any connection there? You betcha.GameSpot has also posted their impressions of the demonstration.
