Late Night Consoling
by jason bergman, Mar 15, 2002 8:30pm PSTSo shortly after I bitch about how much the soundtrack to Jet Set Radio Future annoys me, than it actually gets better. It's not music I'd listen to outside of the game, of course, but I've found that after Chapter 2 the soundtrack gets distinctly less irritating. As many have already commented, the less "EXTRA SUGAR, EXTRA SALT" the better.
- GameSpot seems to have gone totally nuts for fighting games tonight...they have new text and video previews of Tekken 4, a review of Virtua Fighter 4 (calling it "the best fighting game in years") and a new preview of Soul Calibur 2.
- Congratulations European gamers...you can finally buy an Xbox. It'll be another six weeks before you can get a GameCube to go along with that.
- It ain't GTA3, but nonetheless Take Two has confirmed that State of Emergency is headed to the Xbox. They also confirmed a GBA version of GTA3, and said that new games in the Grand Theft Auto and Midnight Club series will be released in Fall 2002 and Winter 2003.
- Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller has been formally announced by Sega, and will be released for the Xbox this Summer in Japan. The first screenshots are up at GameSpot.
- Are you sick of Resident Evil media yet? No? Good, because Cube.IGN has a whole bunch more of it.
- Also at Cube.IGN is an update on the GameCube port of Phantasy Star Online, complete with new screenshots.
- Xbox.IGN has posted a hands-on preview of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
- XenGamers' Malice Q&A talks with Jez San of Argonaut about their upcoming platformer.
- PS2.IGN is reporting that the PS2 port of No One Lives Forever has gone gold. Look for it next month.
- As promised, pre-orders are now open for Portable Monopoly's Afterburner light mod for the GameBoy Advance. Also new at the site is a movie of the mod in action.

Is it worth forcing myself through Phantasy Star I to play the later games in the series? Or can I safely skip the first game, if the case is such that the games don't relate to each other directly (ala FF)?

If anyone remembers, Rick Dangerous was a great flick-screen platformer for the C64, Amiga and I think ST. From Core a few years before they went on to do Tomb Raider (which continued the whole Indiana Jonesish theme).
