Late Night Theatrics
by Steve Gibson, Mar 14, 2002 8:23pm PSTHollywood is in the constant pursuit of that perfect movie that will appeal to everyone. I've pitched the idea of a Cannonball Run style movie with all monster trucks and hot women in bikinis in the back with ticking time bombs strapped to the top of each truck. Throw in Carrot Top and Chris Tucker, and you've got a blockbuster. I havent gotten any call backs. Yet.
- A DragonBallZ movie. I'm the opposite of excited! - Resident Evil interview with the multi-pass chick - Mattel is upset over the Barbie lesbian love movie. - Another new James Bond movie! Chance of sucking? 27% - More Terminator3 news New movies this week: - Showtime - Resident Evil - Ice Age New on DVD: - Zoolander - HeistGot to check out Time Machine last weekend. Up tight geeks will probably get all pissy over the ending, which wasnt really all that smooth but it was a pretty fun ride and much more action oriented than I was expecting. It gets a 8.9322123!

DragonBall Z one of the most successful series's of all time, great content, awsome characters... an anime that can show force and power like nothing else, aswell as being extremely humourous at times... Hell these guys practically invented the concept of throwing a "fireball"... I have nothing but respect for DBZ...
but almost all of the shows greatest features are in-tangible in reality... so WHY would they even CONSIDER making this live action? Didnt they see the Street Fighter movie? Ugh... I can just see the horrible plastic costume design already.
This film, if not animated, HAS to be all CG. That could be awsome if handled by the correct team. Someone find me a mail address for the director!

BTW while no one has secured live action rights to DBZ like the article claims, there was a live action movie, don't recall if it was DB or DBZ... but a Baaaaaad movie. Nope never saw it but I saw the box art... oh god.
A live action version, on the other hand, I can't even imagine being presentable. I mean really, this is a show where after three hours of exposition and posturing they have a five hour martial arts battle that destroys planets as collateral damage, while flying and on fire. Suuuure, that'll work great in live action.
acting? sucked
dialogue? sucked
plot? full of holes (not just minor geeky stuff either, but wide gaping orifices of logic) and completely bastardized the book.
special FX? very cool. watching the world change over large periods of time was well done. it was the one redeeming point.
it's a rental, at best. and that's being generous.

The only cool part of the movie was when Time-Traveling-Weenie-Man finds out the moon has been blown up. Everything else was poorly written, awkward, and rushed.
Steve, you need to be a *lot* more cynical with your movie reviews. Maaarten too. Most movies suck ass and need prominent webmasters like yourself to warn the populous before we waste $10 and spend the rest of the night apologizing to our friends. It's your patriotic duty!

the one thing that really got my attention in the whole article was this:
I dare you to make DOC SAVAGE.
Hollywood: WAKE UP. this would be excellent. Doc Savage novels are excellent.
Very much the inspiration for Indian Jones (Adventure/Scientist) character, imo.
Done right, with a good supporting cast, and the right character as Doc, it would kick a lot of ass. Heck, I still watch the old Movie ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0072886 ) whenever I catch it on TV.
