Best Buy & GeForce 4 Cards

An equally ludicrous incident was reported yesterday here in Calgary. Sears advertised a fridge for $199 instead of the $1999 it should have been sold for. Some asshole bought five (5) of the things at the 90% discount price and is now suing Sears because they politely, but firmly, told this guy to eat a dick and stop trying to rip them off.

The guy wouldn't have purchased a single fridge at the regular price he admitted on the radio. So he bought five (5) of them to sell to others... is he a thief or an idiot? I come down on the idiot thief side... just as I view him I view those whiner bitches at hardocp. Boo fuckin hoo, you tried to rip off Best Buy and got caught.

I used to enjoy HardOCP....but after all this whining about BB, I don't think I'll visit the site anymore. THEY are the ones who sent people to the BB site, KNOWING it was a mistaken price. I guarantee, BB doesn't get as many hits to their site normally, and 99% of those orders for that vid card were people going there from other sites linking to it. Now, when they don't get their way about the card, they start crying like some little girl with a skinned knee..

These people KNEW they weren't going to get their cards. Best Buy should not be held liable for a pricing mistake. HardOCP needs to go stuff it. Juvenile tricenarians.

I hate to make a sweeping generalisation, but ever since I've been a shacker encountering Americans (infact ever since I've really delt with Americans online in any kind of way) I've noticed they are whiny bitch consumers, specifically the geek crowd (yes, I'm a geek too)

I mean I nearly fell over with shock when I first read about "price protection" - I can understand Intel doing it for big suppliers, but when Joe gruntus buys a game / hardware for 78$ US from (wherever) then walks into a store 2 weeks later and complains "hey, you assholes dropped the price a week after I bought this" and Joe gruntus gets a refund?? WHAT THE FUCK?

Sorry Joe, but you bought it when they were still charging X - what the motherFUCK? try that with a resteraunt or a car or anything - people will and SHOULD laugh in your faces.

This whole best buy thing is fucked - sure if it's bait and switch, I can understand that's fucked but whining so much people (gateway) feel compelled to throw away their money to keep "loyal" customers well more fool them - any geek (including me) will ditch a company at the drop of a hat as soon as the competition has a similar product for less (I'll ditch AMD and Nvidia for ATI and intel AT the drop of a hat the second they offer more for less - and I'll go straight back to Nvidia and AMD the second they counter it)

I say if you can stick some corporation for a couple of dollars DO IT! It's not like they aren't jacking the price on other items to make a couple more dollars off of you. Let us not forget the Return To Castle Wolfenstien fiasco.

Let me state now that this is not a "witch hunt" in order to get Best Buy to shell out cheap VidCards for everyone involved. This is an attempt to get solid case law on the books in a state court to hold Net retailers to some standard or least be bound by a shard of accountability for their actions online. Precedents set on this will very likely lead to legislation governing inaccurate and misleading pricing online. These kinds of errors by large companies will become nearly nonexistent once there is a circumstance to be faced for their errors. Until they are called on in a court of law they will simply hide behind their terms & conditions statement, that by the way, will be "worthless" in a legal setting.

Wrong prices are a total bitch. I can not tell you how many times I have placed orders for computer hardware that appeared to be legitamate prices but only to find out 3 days later (big delay) that my order was never processed due to the wrong price or just being charged the wrong higher price (thank you jeebus for print to pdf)

There needs to be legal presidence binding these companies

Best Buy has generated a lot of publicity doing something that IRL is illegal

If I called Best Buy 224 here in ICT and asked how much a certain specific item was and they told me $xxx and I went in and it was not that price - they HAVE TO sell it to me at the quoted price. That is BAIT AND SWITCH. They got me to come in the store. Why is that illegal? Because I could get a shitload of people into the store with tactics like that (put out a flyer that says $100 GeForce 4s - get a shitload of people in the store and say, no - typo) and once in the store, the odds are good a few will buy. Bait, and switch.

Also - other companies honor their typos. Just because its on the net does not mean businesses get to re-write the rules in their favor.

Let me get this straight. People want best buy to give them a 400$ video card for 129$...and when they can't get it for that price they want to cry. I understand a mistake was made, but legally that doesn't require them to give you SQUAT. Get over yourselves, freeloaders..jesus, you all make me sick.

Bets Buy has since done this type of pricing "mistake" 2 more times with other items. If it happens over and over again, it's not a mistake.

What if I live in Canada and didn't order one, but still want to rip off Best Buy and get a free-ride just like these other cheap fucks?

Um, if you guys follow the story, some people called their 800 number to get the prive confirmed -- twice. It's not just people being retards, it's Best Buy being retards. And perhaps they should take some responsibility, hmm? It's kind of, you know, good for business. Especially with geeks.

Seems like they just want to get a case in the books that makes e-tailers responsible for 'mistakes' such as this. It may be an honest mistake on their part but if others exploit such practice it could become a problem.

If it makes the internet a safer place for me to do buisiness i'm all for it.
