This article at CNNmoney talks with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto about the world of online gaming. He reiterates that Nintendo as a company doesn't see much promise in the world of online gaming, and he even compares it to another thing common in many games that you'll never find in one of his:

"Online gaming, like using violence in games, is just one method of introducing gaming to the public," he said. "And there are other methods that can be used."
He does continue, and gives more reasons here than we've heard from most places, but it seems pretty clear that Nintendo won't be exploring any online opportunities for some time, if ever. That pretty much means you can rule out anything like Hyrule Online, Super Smash Bros. with dozens of people simultaneously, or any sort of Metroid deathmatch.
  • No shockers here...Ubi-Soft has officially announced Rayman 3: Hoodlam Havoc for every next-generation system (shouldn't that be "current generation" now?) and PC. The first shots can be found at PS2.IGN.
  • It's already available for virtually every other platform, but nonetheless, the GameCube version of Agent Under Fire has gone gold. Look for the Palm, Amiga, Jaguar and 3DO versions soon.
  • According to "high ranking retail sources" quoted by Cube.IGN, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 2 will be released here in the US this October. RE2 is a port (not a remake) of the PSOne original, while RE0 is a prequel that was originally in development for the N64, but was canceled in favor of a GC version.
  • Still more GameCube fun: two Sega sports titles have been bumped up a week, and will now be released on March 19th.
  • GameSpot has posted details and impressions of the Xbox, PS2, GameCube and Game Boy Advance versions of Spider-Man: The Movie, which as its title would seem to suggest, will be out this summer to capitalize on the big-screen movie.
  • For those who haven't kept on top of things, here's a good recap of the status of Sony's PS2 online network. Apparently Sony's going to be talking about it at GDC later this month.
  • For those interested, Sony is now taking pre-orders for the North American version of the PS2 Linux kit (thanks Cadbury). The pre-order page stresses that this HD is not compatible with HDD-enhanced games (it's only for Linux).
  • Here's an interesting look at the Japanese Xbox launch, from a financial analyst's perspective.
Console Game of the Evening: Ecco the Dolphin for the Sega Genesis. This isn't a brilliant game by any means, but it is a great deal of fun, and remarkably relaxing.
