Late Night Theatrics
by Steve Gibson, Feb 28, 2002 8:17pm PSTThursday! No Late Night Consoling tonight as Jason is off mugging senior citizens or whatever it is he does for fun. Checked out The Count of Monte Cristo with the woman the other day. Really fun flick, only a few minor complaints but overall time well spent. I give it a 8.733!

So you're just dumb, eh? We Were Soldiers is the movie version of We Were Soldiers Once... And Young. About the Battle of Ia Drang Valley during Vietnam. Nice try though.

there is a lot of funny stuff in there, including a ton of will ferrell scenes that were cut, and some funny improv between him and jon stewart. oddly, stewart seems to be the better improv guy, throwing out lines with a straight face that would have made tears squirt out of my eyes.
all in all, great dvd. i haven't seen all of the extras yet, but i have been very entertained. the movie is better than i remembered it to be as well, and gets better the farther into it you get. the whole Good Will Hunting: Hunting Season scene cracks me up...

The book was fantastic.
and there aren't many Vietnam War movies around, but they are ALL good (Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, Hamburger Hill, Casualties of War, etc)
Gonna go see it tomorrow 'round noon. Been looking forward to it for months. I love war movies.

Looks like Freeman is going to play Bill Cabot.
Harrison Ford was too old to play Jack Ryan in the Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Now they bring in Affleck for the movie where Harrison Ford would be a close age match appearance wise. I shudder at the thought of Affleck and whomever having to play husband and wife to a near teen daughter.
Affleck could have realistically played one Jack Ryan. Cardinal in the Kremlin. Beyond that he's just too damn young.
Then they butcher the script to meet the interests of focus groups' who never read any of the books anyhow. =P
Not Clancy's best work to be honest, but damn couldn't they let a storyline be?
Goddamn a R6 movie would be sweet if they stuck to the book. Too many American terrorist overtones though, the US couldn't stomach it.
