Stupid question of the evening...why is Nintendo's official abbreviation for the GameCube GCN? That doesn't really have the same flair as SNES, GBA or N64 does it? I guess I should be thankful it's not something really silly like Game³, but it is pretty dorky nonetheless. Of course, I'm only now starting to accept the name "Game Boy Advance", which probably has English teachers around the country considering throwing in the towel altogether.

  • Here's a pleasant surprise...according to GameSpot, Tribes: Aerial Assault for PS2 is still on track for release later this year. The system will make full use of the PS2's online network.
  • Speaking of which, here's an updated list of games in development (in Japan) for the PS2 network adapter.
  • With the Japanese launch behind them, Microsoft is now setting their guns on Europe, as they have announced their full Xbox launch lineup. The system ships on March 14th.
  • The GIA has a new preview of Tactics Ogre online, looking at this upcoming strategy-RPG for the Game Boy Advance.
  • Tenchu fans can relax...Way of the Samurai, the the new game from the creators of that series, now has an American publisher, and it should be out for PS2 this summer.
  • Sony continues their push for global console domination, as the PS2 has been released in South Korea. Korea's a huge market, with an insane number of MMORPG and Starcraft players, and this is the first time a Sony system has been officially released there.
  • New previews of Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain for Xbox can be found at Xbox.IGN and GameSpot, where they have separate text and video previews up.
  • Sick of seeing stuff from that new Resident Evil remake? If so, skip out on this GameSpot update, which has 40 new shots and a new trailer movie.
  • Another edition of Game Over is up at CNN/Money, this time talking with Nintendo's one and only Shigeru Miyamoto about his various games. Apparently in the next column, we'll hear Miyamoto talk about bringing the GameCube online.
Console Game of the Evening: Mario Tennis for the Virtual Boy. This is one of the few games I've ever played that actually made me nauseous. That glaring red color and pseudo-3D just made me sick.
