According to this press release on MSNBC, NVidia has purchased an Axis Xtreme acceleration/emulation system. What the hell is that? Basically, NVidia will be able to verify designs of new chipsets much quicker and so they can speed up the time from design to production. Thanks V0lk.

  • Eh, the 6 month product cycle is already a shattered myth. Unless you count the GF2 Ultra a new product compared to the GTS or Pro. Or unless you consider the Ti200 and Ti500 new products compared to the Geforce 3. I don't.

If you called the GF2 Pro a new product, then again the Ultra you could call it a 3 month product cycle. And the GF2 Ti200, GF3 Ti200, and GF3 Ti500 all came out at the same time. What about the MX420/440/460 and Ti 4200/4400/4600? Thats 6 products since the Ti500. 1 month product cycle?

Nvidia is playing pick and choose with what they call a new product. They pick and choose whatever most closely matches and propogates their much lauded "6 month product cycle." Sorry, its a year and we all know it.

  • Colonel Nvidia: Do to the revolutionary way of manufacturing chip, we are selling chips while they are still in the design phase
Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When do we release this chipset?
Colonel Nvidia: You're looking at now, sir. Everything that is released now is being designed now.
Dark Helmet: What hapened to then?
    Colonel Nvidia: We passed then.
    Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Nvidia: Just now. We're at now now.
Dark Helmet: Go back to then.
    Colonel Nvidia: When?
    Dark Helmet: Now!
    Colonel Nvidia: Now?
    Dark Helmet: Now!
    Colonel Nvidia: I can't.
    Dark Helmet: Why?
    Colonel Nvidia: We missed it.
    Dark Helmet: When?
    Colonel Nvidia: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?
    Colonel Nvidia: Soon.
