Romero on Daikatana

Daiktana.com has posted an audio interview with John Romero (click news). Can't say I like each question broken into a seperate audio file, just list a darn index with time stamps on when each question starts eh? At any rate John talks about the upcoming Daikatana press demo which is slated for release next month. The interview also covers quite a bit of ground on anything else you might want to know about the game.

  • I don\'t think we will be flying out to see Duke Nukem Forever any time soon. Our Webmaster, Evil Avatar, holds pretty much the same contempt for Duke Nukem Forever and 3D Realms that he does for Ion Storm.

I however, have my own opinion on the subject and I think that 3D Realms track record for creating high quality games that are fun to play as well as pushing the envelope of technology and graphics is well established.

Any delays in Duke Nukem Forever I\'m sure will just help cement that game in as The First Person Shooter to beat next year. Ok, I\'m a fan of Duke Nukem 3D, got a problem with that?

Ion Storm on the other hand...

If you think I don\'t like Ion Storm or have anything against John Romero personally, then you have certainly passed on learning the \"fine art of sarcasm\". I thought that interview spoke for itself. Romero didn\'t seem to have a firm grasp on where the project was at this time and it sounded like they have a lot to complete for the limited amount of time they have left to complete the project. Not a good sign.

I can only judge the game off of what they have released up to date and the demo they released so far was crap and the screenshots I have seen of the game so far are crap. What is up with that limp wristed faggy silver nintendo Powerglove thing in the last screenshots that were posted to Daikatana.com? Come over here little girly man so I can scratch you to death.

It doesn\'t look like a good product and is deserving of ridicule.

  • But Evil Avatar can\'t fly out the check out \'Daikatana.\'
What if he likes it? That would go against
    his paranoid, Epic-loving, Id-worshipping
    Ion-hating, Romero-reviling views. I seem
to remember that EA hated \'Unreal Tournament\'
as well. Then, after Epic let him come to
their offices and spend the night playing
the game, he suddenly decided he liked
it. EA and all his cronies are so brainwashed
into hating Ion Storm and Romero, it\'s almost
funny. If you check out the site, you\'ll
notice that all Ion news is presented with
    utter contempt. They\'ve passed judgment
on the game, and it hasn\'t even been released
yet. To be fair, they\'re not alone, but still. Here\'s a question for you, Fletcher and
EA: where the hell is \'Duke Nukem Forever\'?
Shouldn\'t that have come out a year ago? As it
stands, the game is still about a year away. And yet,
never is heard a discouraging word in
regards to 3D Realms. Don\'t want to
jeopardize that plane trip, eh? Keep in mind
that \'DNF\' is a game I am looking forward to
very much. I think the whole Ion-Romero-Daikatana
thing has become something of a joke, but the
sheer amount of venom by so many
    people baffles me.

  • Breaking down those Real Audio files into seperate chunks was a pretty bad idea and it shows that this wasn\'t a real \"interview\" but just a bunch of sound bites intended to impress Daikatana fans.

Some of the stuff sounded really great, like a co-op mode that suports up to 3 players, but some of the other stuff...

Like where he is hemming and hawing about what types of Deathmatch games are included in the game... Um... the game ships in like 60 days and you don\'t even know what kind of Deathmatch modes will be included in the game? That means that the Multiplayer Modes havn\'t been programmed yet.

He also really hems and haws about the Press Demo. First he says it will have 8 levels, then he says they are scrambling to even pull together 4 levels. Umm... excuse me? The game has to Go Gold in about 60 days and you can\'t even get a lousy four complete levels ready to show off to the press? That is a really bad sign. It means that they are just really scrambling to put together the game at this late hour and when you just try to jam stuff together at the last second...

Usually you end up with Crap.
