Half-Life Cheating Q&A
by Maarten Goldstein, Jan 24, 2002 2:48pm PSTAs you might know, Valve has recently started testing new builds of Half-Life and Counter-Strike. Besides testing their Steam system, they are also implementing some new anti-cheat measures. Erik Johnson was kind enough to answer a few questions about Valve's effort to stop cheating. The chances of somebody finding a flaw increases exponentially with the number of players. With the 'arms race' approach, cheating such as aimbots, skin hacks and wallhacks will still happen but not to the extent that it is now. But unfortunately there isn't much they can do about tweeked openGL drivers so this game already jumped the shark. It's a damn shame it had to die such a slow horribly miserable death. *spit*

Boy, they sure had me fooled, considering they haven't done jack shit to stop cheating since they stopped the speed cheat and disabled one ancient version of some wallhack in CS 1.0. Again, I hate to say it, but it is true. I guess it will be hard for them to rid the nasty taste out of my mouth.
