MoH: Is It Any Good?

So we already did a post on it yesterday but most people should be getting the game today so it's time for a real impressions post about Medal of Honor: Allied Assault like we did for RTCW. It should be available in stores around the U.S. now, for an estimated $49.99. Is the single player as good as the demo, or does it suck? Is it really short (we've heard reports of 6 hours total)? Multiplayer better than the original demo? Be sure to let us know. Also feel free to mention where you bought the game at if people are having problems finding it.

Keep your head down and your morale high as you storm the beaches of Normandy to defeat the dreaded Nazi scourge. Electronic Arts today announced that Medal of Honor Allied Assault has shipped for the PC. Set during the most trying years of the war, 1942-1944, Medal of Honor Allied Assault gives players a sense of the courage it took to survive the landings at Normandy and drive into the teeth of the Third Reich. Players will assume the role of Lt. Mike Powell, member of the famed 1st Ranger Battalion, as he travels from the battlegrounds of North Africa, to Omaha Beach, and finally, thrusting into the heart of Nazi Germany itself.

  • I've got this game on monday, and just beat the game(I was off school for both days, so about 10+ hours I'm guessing). I won't say anything about the graphics because most of the screenshots and videos speak for themselves; the animation is great, the weapons and sounds are accurate and lush (aka the game looks VERY nice)

I must say I was very impressed with the single player game. There are a lot of scripted events in the game, which are exciting the first time through, but after a quickload, the events are exactly the same so it's predictable. That's not to say it detracts from the game, because playing through it is an awesome experience. The levels all fit well with the time setting, and the missions are varied enough to keep things fresh (I can't really say the same about RtCW). As everyone has been saying, the Omaha level is awesome. I have never seen a game capture a moment like that, it was as if I was apart of it. As soon as the doors on the boat dropped, all hell broke loose, and I felt like I was apart of it. Very crazy. The other missions consist of search/destroy, escort, and stealth. They stay varied so I found myself at the computer a lot, even after telling myself I would take a break (that's why it only took me a couple of hours to beat; i was hooked). My only major gripes are, as I mentioned before, the scripted parts, and some of the enemy AI. Sometimes in a mission, after clearing a room and moving on triggering an event, I would look back at the building and see some nazis coming out of it. On one of the escape missions, that was very apparent, and got frustrating after a few waves. On the AI side, the enemy is like an all seeing eye. Sometimes their shots, all of them, will tear you up the moment you show yourself (I guess that's RL). Sometimes they would react mechanically to make the events seem less realistic, and some other things. Blood was also missing, but it doesn't take away from the real experience of the game, just the realism. Even though it might look like the flaws are bad from my point of view, they really aren't. The game is awesome anyway, and I recommend it to anyone who cares about the genre.

Now I'm gonna go check out the multiplayer :)
