XBox Diary2
by Steve Gibson, Jan 21, 2002 10:26am PSTJason's ever evolving XBox article has finally surfaced. It's a bit of a XBox diary much like Richard's article but with Jason's own fruity twist on things. He puts a bunch of focus on Halo (which he liked) and talks about the other offerings currently for XBox.
Lets start with Obi-Wan. Like a few other Xbox games, its not terrible, but that doesnt mean its very good either. For one thing, the game has some of the worst voice acting Ive ever heard. The actors seem to be doing impersonations of the actors from the Star Wars films, but they come off as being caricatures at best. I;m not Scottish, but I must say that the Ben Kenobi voice almost offended me. Would it have killed them to get someone with an actual Scottish accent? [snip]

That said, I think the playstation 2 is probably the best console out there right now, it's got the most good games and the graphics still impress a bit. I don't think it will stay that way forever, but right now, I do wish I had a ps2 :-)... I have plenty of fun with my X Box though.

I dont regret my purchase at all. Halo was a good time, Project Gotham and Munch are decent.
Surely more great titles will surface in the future.
It's pretty disappointing for an XBox/GC owner when we're seeing all these incredible titles coming out for PS2. It's dated hardware, but it's got the best stuff. I hope that a year down the road XBox and GC can compete.

There is no need to justify the console you chose. I have a PSOne, a Dreamcast and an XBox. Each I bought for its own reasons. Each I like for different purposes. I don't feel that I need to defend my purchases at all, and I do not feel that I need to bad-mouth the latest offering from a company I didn't buy from. It is possible, and legal, to like more than just one platform.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled trolling and pointless bickering.

" I may go back to replay the single player on a higher difficulty level (something I havenÂ’t done since Doom) but I doubt IÂ’ll be playing its deathmatch mode any time soon."
That's why you're not playing the deathmatch, not because of any lack of quality in it :)
Playing splitscreen is actually beneficial and provides more communication if you can manage a networked teamplay halogame.

I thought it was weird that you were so quick to say there is only ONE good game out for the system. Give the others a chance.

Not to mention the improved graphics, that game should be sweet as hell.
Sega is bringing MANY of it's better titles to the X box. I could care less about sonic, I'm a little sad that Virtua Fighter 4 is PS2 exclusive, but I'll dry my eyes while playing Soul Calibur 2 on my X box....

"but jaaaasooon!! the controller works fine for ME! your opinion is obviously somehow wrong, there's no way you could find the xbox controller too big!"
opinions are opinions
Overall I'd have to say I disagree with Jason's statement about there being only one game worth owning, but I guess it depends on your tastes.

I've been burned by console launches before; a wait and see attitude is the smart thing to do in most cases (although I picked up a Cube at launch for SSB:M, Pikmin, Monkey Ball, and the upcoming Mario/Zelda/Metroid/etc sequels).
I'm sure I'll be picking up an XBox when an exclusive comes out for it that I MUST play. I'm sure MS is going to unleash something at this year's E3 that will have everyone drooling.

I dug all 4 games, of the four DoA 3 was easily the worst, but that's not saying much, it's still a good game, and halo is easily the best, though it's not a "pick it up for a few minutes and put it down" game. My question to the assembled shack... what am I missing?
I probably won't buy amped (I'd rather play Tony Hawk), and project gotham, imo, was just too hard, it got frustrating after the Ford Focus, I might still get it though :-)
What other great games are there out there that I'm missing? I already have Max Payne for the PC. Anything else?

more controller bitching!!!
jason
i played 5hours of dead or alive 3 with my friends
button placement is fine, since if you hold the controller just fine, the button placement lines perfectly with the way your thumb rests natrually... and the buttons dont hurt your hand at all
give doa 3 a shot and play it for a long time
youll see what i mean
however the black and white buttons are a pain to get to in a pinch
thankfully not many games depend on these 2 buttons, which is a good thing
