  • #188 Constructive criticism is one thing, but most of these people are just \"bitching to hear the sound of their voice\" so to speak. They aren\'t being helpful, they\'re just pissing and moaning because they don\'t have anything better to do. Making a realistic AI is not exactly childs play. They\'re asking for a bot that acts EXACTLY like a real person. Well let\'s just fucking whip one up, it ought to be simple, and maybe when we\'re done it won\'t require 1gig of ram and a dual CPU system just to decide whether to pick it\'s ass or shoot...
Actually I wasn\'t referring to anybody in particular. Just anyone who has a system bigger than mine and swears UT runs like crap. And yes, it runs well on my machine without tweaking and all the options on. While we\'re on the subject, Q3 test ran fine for me without tweaking too. The only option I don\'t turn on in Q3 is lens flare. I don\'t like the feel of Q3 yet, maybe that will change.
I think the \"it runs like crap on my big bad machine\" thing for most people is just an excuse to argue that one game is better than the other.
Quite frankly half the people that said that probably filled their pants when they saw how good the games run. They just can\'t stand admitting it. Who knows.
On the issue of net performance... My connection eats total shit. I haven\'t been able to play Q2 for almost a year since my connection really went south last December. I can\'t play Q3 online either. UT I can actually play online. Not for long.. I may play 1 or 2 maps before I get DCed from my ISP, but it\'s still better than Q3 did.
Lastly, (and once again, this is to no one in particular) if I say I like one game better than the other, no one can argue with me. And if anyone thinks that what they say here will change how much I like either game they need to pull their head out of their asshole. If I like UT better it doesn\'t hurt you. If you like Q3 better it doesn\'t hurt me.
Why can\'t people figure that out?

  • #186 so if you can\'t make a FPS then you shouldn\'t complain about parts that aren\'t done well? I\'m sorry I missed your logic there... And I\'m assuming your talking about my post when you say the 400MHz Pentium, so I\'ll take that up too. I\'ve got no idea what you think running well is. As long as nothing much is going on... wowee it runs great. If I load up on 6 rockets I can literally count the number of frames my machine is getting. This is without tweaking. On Q3 it is always playable no matter what is going on (well, I\'ll admint I was taking a hell of a hit on the one ShackStack I went to :), without tweaking. Something just doesn\'t add up there. Unreal was even worse than UT. Hell with UT at least it takes less than a min for the level to load... slowdowns aren\'t as bad as Unreal. They\'re borderline acceptable range. Far from what I would want though...

    Either way good night.

  • I\'m getting sick of people saying UT runs like shit on their Cray supercomputers and shit. I have a k6 233 and a Canopus Pure3d2 12meg and UT runs great. So does Unreal as a matter of fact. If you have a 400mhz pentium and can\'t get UT to run well on it you obviously have no idea what an options menu is used for...
As for the people complaining about the way the bots are being made...
If you can program bot AI better than the people doing it for UT, then do it for them. Heck maybe you\'ll get paid?! Until you know a way to do it better and have the know how to implement it. Why don\'t you cram it? Helpfull advice is one thing, mindless bitching however is rather unnecessary.
