Unreal Tournament 2 @ GS
by Steve Gibson, Jan 11, 2002 5:04pm PSTHere's something to make your weekend, the first official screenshots along with an interview about Unreal Tournament 2 over at GS. Here's a bit about the singlerplayer and then a bit about the multiplayer:
Singleplayer: There are many refinements. The single-player is much different from its predecessor. You now are the captain of a persistent but evolving team. You play the single-player game, upgrade your team by hiring "free agents" or increasing the ability of your teammates. Imagine the possibilities when you play the game and can refine your team to your taste or style of play! Multiplayer: - Capture the flag - Domination 2: This is a refinement of the one found in the original Unreal Tournament. - Bombing run: A bomb will spawn in the middle of this mode's many maps. It is your team's goal to pick this up and deliver it to your opponent team's base - Deathmatch - Team DeathmatchUnreal Tournament 2 was just confirmed recently after a bunch of info and screenshots came out.

What the hell is happening with this industry? :(

Anything that lets very good players get an even greater leg up on the weaker players makes the game not fun for everyone. This was tried and failed in Q2 when it was possible to hold down the red armor, 300 power cells in your shield, hold a strength rune, and manage the quad.
Deepening the divide between good and bad makes a game suck ass.

So if I already own Quake 3 I guess this game isn't for me then? =)

well good for epic. 2 years lag in the catchup game isnt that bad i guess.
and if you compare this directly to the game q3. remember it was done a couple of years ago when the hardware wasnt as strong. thats why it runs like 200 fps on current hardware. the newer q3 engine games show off what it can do better.

WOW. I was pretty taken by the first screens that we saw awhile ago. These are even better. Awesome, this tells for good things to come (other games using the engine). I hear DNF is going to use this one now

I say late November 2002. That's probably being too optimistic though.

I saw UC in action at E3 and it looked fantastic.
screenshots tell very little.
"PE: We're shooting for Q3 this year."
Taken out of context, that answer is worth a chuckle or two.

Too bad i could only play against like 6 guys since they're the only people who use ZeroPing anymore. When UT2 comes out I am gonna be so psyched, the greatest multiplayer experience ever will be back!
This is what I imagine:
"You cannot leave this area without Supafly Johnson"
That isn't good.
THUS SPAKE FUCHATORESE!!! is that right?
Finally, a new multiplayer FPS that's truly worthy. Give me Quake 4 and DNF, and Jack'll be a happy boy. But it's about fscking time.
RTCW is too damn expensive
Anyone knows requirements for this thing ?
CPU, video card ?
This looks good. Im stoked
